2016 – 2017




Voters’ Education. The Ateneo de Naga University through the Center for Local Governance conducted a series of Training on Voters’ Education dubbed as “Kuwentuhang Bayan: Manalangin. Manindigan. Makialam,” a module adopted from the Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan. The training was conducted on March 3, 2016, in Barangay Cabugao, Flordeliz and Mayaopayawan, Milaor with thirty-seven (37) participants; and March 10, 2016, in barangay Fundado, San Nicolas and San Roque, Canaman with twenty-four (24) participants. It was attended by the members of the Sangguniang Barangays, Task Force on Youth Development and sectoral representatives.

The activity aimed to impart to the participants their vital roles in co-building a clear and transparent society. Specifically, the training intended to (1) instill basic understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of politics; (2) help participants discern not only about 2016 elections but also other socio-political issues that they are confronted with on a day-to-day basis; and (3) provide a space for participants to come up with an action plan which will address both local and national issues. During the Training, the participants actively participated in the following Sessions: Introducing Kuwentuhang Bayan; An Engaged Citizen; Engaging the Nation; Towards and Beyond 2016 Elections; Our National Situationer; Politics and Engaged Citizenship; Duties of Elected Officials; and Church’s Social Teaching. The training included the crafting of individual Commitment Pledge and the formulation of Action Plans in line with the 2016 elections and beyond.


Operation Tuli: A Christmas Surgical Outreach.  In collaboration with the Center for Community Development (CCD) Office and University Social Involvement Council, the College of Nursing with Dr. Leslie Villamora, Ateneo Junior High School Physician sponsored a circumcision outreach last December 17, 2016, at San Nicholas, Canaman. 26 male children ranging from age 6-14 years old participated and parents were given health education, informed them of the importance and advantages of circumcision, proper wound cleansing, and infection preventions.


Ignatiana. In celebration of the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the annual outreach activity was held on July 30, 2016, at the nine partner barangays and other selected communities through the Center for Community Development. On the final report, the activities were participated in by five hundred ninety-eight (598) students and one hundred ninety-three (193) faculty, staff and other sectors of the university. Moreover, there were a total of two thousand eight hundred twenty-five (2,825) school children/families/local residents who benefited from the different activities. The beneficiaries were very appreciative of the opportunities and experiences shared with them by Ateneo. The activities held were story-telling on the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, classroom interaction and other topics, launching of zero malnutrition program of the CCD, tree planting, mangrove reforestation activity, Bahay Atenista/house-build, coastal clean-up, library set-up and management, talk on disaster preparedness, catechism, health education, reading remediation tutorial, seminar on basic splinting and bandaging and computer literacy.

Xavier Day. Once again on December 3, 2016, the Ateneans celebrated the St. Francis Xavier Day. The Center for Community Development in collaboration with University of Social Involvement and Kristong Hari Foundation conducted outreach activities in 9 partner communities and 14 separate barangays. A total of (144) faculty/staff, (597) students and (1) Administrator participated in different events such as Community Mirienda wherein (3,367) Kids are fed, Tree Planting of 200 seedlings, Bahay Atenista wherein 1 house was constructed, Mangrove Planting of 2,000 Propagules, Coastal Clean-up of more than 200 kilos of garbage collected and Community outreach with Indigenous People of Villaflorida, Ocampo and Caranday, Baao.

Other activities were held such as Publication Seminar-Workshop in Minalabac by The College of Triumph Office, outreach activity on Basic Finance/Bookkeeping and Feeding in Dominurog, Calabanga by JPIA and Catechism and parlor games for kids of Calauag, Naga City by Ateneo CLS in partnership with AJMA.  Lastly, the Ateneo Eagles conducted a seminar for sufficient knowledge/proper skills when it comes to disasters and emergencies at Tarawal, Calabanga and continued their Tarpbag project as well as their “Tindahan ni Aling ANJE” under the Welfare Development area that aims to provide affordable school supplies for elementary students.
