BS Accountancy

The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) is the program that provides general accounting education to students who want to pursue a professional in Accountancy. The program provides a foundation of professional knowledge, professional skills, and professional values, ethics and attitudes that enable the graduates to continue to learn and adapt to developments brought by the changing times. This is based on CMO No. 27, series of 2017 that followed the competency framework outlined by the International Federation of Accountants through the International Education Standards. The program makes the graduate qualified to take the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination given by the Philippine Professional Regulatory Commission through the Board of Accountancy. Moreover, the program also enables the graduate to take international competency examination or assessment related to the Accountancy profession.

BS BA Accounting Information Management

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information Management is the program that proves general accounting education to students wanting to pursue a professional career in Accounting Information Management. The program provides a foundation of professional knowledge, professional skills, and professional values, ethics and attitudes that enable the graduate to continue to learn and adapt to the development brought by the changing times.
BS BA Financial Management and Accounting The program provides general accounting education to students wanting to pursue a professional career in management accounting. Further, this is the program that complies with the latest competency framework for professional accountants issued by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) thru their International Education Standards. Thus, this qualifies the graduate of this program to take assessments leading to certifications in management accounting given by global professional management accounting organizations.

BS BA Legal Management

The BSBA major in Legal Management Program is designed to prepare the graduate in the management of law offices, as well as in assisting the management on legal matters. It also prepares the graduate for further studies in law school. It covers major components of law that are encountered in business: taxation, labor law, criminal law, administrative law, remedial law. The program also provides the Legal Management graduate an opportunity for Work-Integrated Learning and Legal Research Writing to equip them with basic know-how on the legalities in the business environment.

BS Tourism Management

The BS in Tourism Management program prepares the graduate for careers in management and supervision of tourism-related business enterprises and activities. The program will equip students with competencies relevant to the requirements of tourism and travel management in domestic and international sphere.

The program considers the competencies required by the industry by integrating into its courses activities that will enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitude of students as well as identifies relevant technologies that can complement the achievement of its expected outcome.

BS Entrepreneurship Specialized Track on Tourism

The Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship program aims to develop Ignatian entrepreneurs who are equip with the necessary knowledge and skills in identifying and pursuing opportunities, preparing business plans and starting or developing business enterprises. The program will prepare students to gain global perspective to enable them to be globally competitive and adaptive to the fast-changing business environment. It also aims to allow students to discover and develop enterprises that will aide in the holistic development of Bicol Region. Through the specialized track in Entrepreneurial Tourism, the graduate is equip with the technical skills and competencies to operate travel and tourism-related enterprises.

BS BA Banking and Finance

The Banking and Finance program is designed to prepare students with an extensive background in the functional areas of business with emphasis in the field of banking and finance. The program will provide students with the skills and tools necessary for understanding investment, capital markets, financial management and financial institutions. The program provides a solid business core that includes understanding the financial aspects of the economy, the operations of financial institutions and markets, and the financial management of business operations.

BS BA Business Management Honors Program

The Business Management Honors Program is designed to equip students with the basic and advanced concepts and principles of Business Management. The program will focus on the more authoritative aspects of business such as strategic planning and decision-making, leadership and motivation in the workplace, and generally running an enterprise in a wide range of business environment. It teaches students to be analytic and critical thinkers and to have an eye for identifying opportunities and seizing these opportunities as they become available. Students of this program are being prepared to become corporate executives and management consultants.

BS BA Management

The BSBA major in Management program is designed to equip students with the basic and advanced concepts of principles of Business Management. The program will focus on the functions and roles as a manager. It teaches the students on how to make decisions through identifying the internal and external factors of the organization. Students of this program are being prepared to become managers in profit and non-profit entities in different functional areas of the organization – first line managers, middle managers, and executives.

BS BA Marketing Management

The Marketing Management program prepares the graduate for careers in marketing, market research, advertising and public relations. The curriculum provides the graduate with both technical skills and competencies required in the field of Marketing Management which will equip them with competency to analyze the business environment for strategic direction. The program will instill among students critical thinking skills in order to innovate business ideas based on emerging industry.

College of Computer Studies

BS Computer Science

The BS Computer Science (BSCS) includes the study of computing concepts and theories, algorithmic foundations and new developments in computing. The program prepares students to design and create algorithmically complex software and develop new and effective algorithms for solving computing problems. The program also includes the study of the standards and practices in Software Engineering. It prepares students to acquire skills necessary for designing, writing and modifying software solutions.

BS Information Systems

The BS Information Systems Program includes the study of design, application and use of information technology solutions to enhance organizational performance. Graduates of the program should be able to implement information system that addresses the technological and organizational factors affecting its implementation. The program equipped its graduates with a sound understanding of organizational and business principles, project management concepts and processes of information system function so that they can serve as an effective bridge between the technical and non- technical users within an organization.

BS Information Technology

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) Program includes the study of the utilization of both hardware and software technologies involving planning, installing, customizing, operating, managing and administering, and maintaining information technology infrastructure that provides computing solutions to address the needs of an organization. The program prepares graduates to address various user needs involving the selection, development, application, integration and management of computing technologies within an organization.

Digital Illustration and Animation Department

BS Digital Illustration and Animation

The BS Digital Illustration and Animation aims to produce professionals in the new emerging field of digital arts and computer animation. The advertising and entertainment sectors are fast moving towards the use of computers and digital technologies to produce more attractive advertisements and entertainment products. The business sector, on the other hand, is now using Internet-based technologies to sell their products, thus paving the ground for electronic commerce. Multimedia and computer graphics, in particular, play an important role in the success of electronic commerce. As people use Internet services, the greater the demand would be on a new breed of illustrators, animators and graphic layout artists using the new technologies. Potential students of this baccalaureate program will be trained using state-of-the-art facilities provided by the Ateneo de Naga University.


College of Education

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

The BECEd is a four-year undergraduate teacher education degree program for students intending to teach in the early childhood care and education inspired by Ignatian spirituality and values. It aims to develop highly motivated, competent, compassionate and committed early childhood practitioners working with children from 0-8 years old in various early childhood settings (home, community, school and workplace). It is aligned with the National Early Learning Framework (NELF), and the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) and the first key stage which is k to 3.

Bachelor of Elementary Education

The BEED is an undergraduate teacher education degree program designed to prepare individuals intending to teach in the elementary level inspired by Ignatian spirituality and values. It aims to develop highly motivated, competent, compassionate and committed teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for elementary education meeting the expectations of a beginning teacher as articulated in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST).

The Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNEd) is an undergraduate teacher education degree program designed to prepare individuals intending to specialize in special needs education inspired by Ignatian spirituality and values. It aims to develop highly motivated, competent, compassionate and committed teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for elementary education meeting the expectations of a beginning teacher as articulated in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). Specifically, it aims to prepare teachers who will instruct and manage students with additional needs in inclusive and segregated educational settings. Its graduates will be equipped to teach the basic education curriculum and alternate curricula depending on the needs of the students. Those who will teach in the elementary will be trained across different subject areas. Those who will teach in the secondary level will provide educational support to students with additional needs in inclusive classrooms or provide educational services to students who may be enrolled in special education centers.

Bachelor of Physical Education

The Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) is an undergraduate teacher education degree program designed to prepare individuals intending to teach in the secondary level inspired by Ignatian spirituality and values. It aims to develop highly motivated, competent, compassionate and committed teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for secondary education meeting the expectations of a beginning teacher as articulated in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). After successful completion of all academic requirements of the degree/program, graduates of BPEd should be able to practice the teaching profession in the secondary level.

Bachelor of Library Information Science

The Bachelor of Library and Information Science includes the study of development, deployment and management of information resources in print, non-print, electronic and digital formats, application of information technology to basic library operations and services.

The program prepares the students to acquire skills and values required in selecting, organizing, and coordinating access to the best information sources for the knowledge based organization they belong as well as implementing standards for the ethical and appropriate use of information.

It also prepares students to systematically organize, conserve, and restore object, historical and cultural documents and other intellectual properties. Moreover, this program is aimed at forming the students to be a competent librarian imbued with Ignatian values.

It aims to develop highly motivated, competent, compassionate and committed teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for secondary education meeting the expectations of a beginning teacher as articulated in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). After successful completion of all academic requirements of the degree/program, graduates of BSEd should be able to practice the teaching profession in the secondary level.

Literature and Language Studies Department

AB English Language Studies

The program is also designed to provide students with communicative competencies that will enable them to actively participate in the affairs of their respective communities and government and be prepared for other baccalaureate courses—fields of academe, media, research, human relations, management and supervision, foreign service, library work, secretarial work, politics and law.

With the increasing demand for functional English in Business, Sciences, Technology, Humanities and Arts, the program aims to expose students to the nature and function of language and language learning across disciplines and to provide them maximum opportunities to use the language in order to excel in the highly competitive world of communications.

AB Literature

The program is designed to allow students to address fundamental questions about the nature, function, and value of literature in comparative context. Literature majors read and write about a wide variety of literary works across periods, genres and national traditions. They investigate traditional and contemporary approaches to literary study, literary theory, both ancient and modern, and the relationship of literature to other branches of the arts and sciences.

Furthermore, the program aims to acquaint students with the best literature in the world’s literature, both classical and modern, Western and Eastern. Equipped with intellectual capital through exposure to great ideas and ideals in literature, the literature major will have marketable skills as creator, teacher, communicator, diplomat, and even as entrepreneur. Fields he may enter are the academe, media, research, human relations, management and supervision, foreign service, library work, secretarial work, politics, and law.

Media Studies Department

AB Broadcasting

Broadcasting as a field of study has traditionally covered the transmission of messages to the public through the media of radio and television. Today, the field has expanded to include non-traditional internet-based multi-platform media. Its study includes contemporary practices in broadcasting, theories and discourses which shape the generation of knowledge about broadcasting.

AB Communication

Communication is a field of study and practice of a continuous process of delivery and exchange of messages through various media channels and technology used by individuals, groups, organizations or societies to achieve goals of information, persuasion, and mutual understanding through human interaction, sharing meaning, creative collaboration, and mixed research to bridge gaps in needs, relations, and knowledge.

AB Journalism

The AB Journalism of the Ateneo de Naga University shall write right, stand guard, and uphold the truth in all forms of media and fight against fake news, misinformation and disinformation. A thesis degree program that covers the principles and techniques of reporting, writing, producing and disseminating of news in a range of forms, formats and platforms. It focuses on timely events, issues, and developments relevant to the communities the journalist serves. The field promotes professional and ethical standards and includes reflection on best practices.

BS Development Communication

Development Communication is the science of human communication linked to the transitioning of communities from poverty in all its forms to dynamic over-all growth that fosters equality and the unfolding of individual potential (N. Quebral, 2012).

 

Philosophy Department

AB Philosophy
Track 1: Teaching The Teaching Track of the AB Philosophy program is envisioned as the suitable preparation and formation of students intending to teach philosophy courses in basic education as well as in the undergraduate level. This track of the Program is designed to inculcate in students the intellectual rigor of understanding philosophical concepts, tracing their historical antecedents and configurations, and developing them as tools for responding to contemporary challenges. At the same time, this track is aimed at forming the students as competent pedagogues, proficient in and versatile with various educational technologies and techniques, and imbued with the Ignatian values of sapientia, eloquentia, magis, and cura personalis.

Track 2: Pre-Law With the arising challenges of the 21st century, anyone who endeavors to promote truth, justice, fairness, and equity in their profession must be equipped with the necessary qualities of critical analysis and insights, a passion and rigor for the pursuit of truth, commitment to the sovereignty of the rule of law, and most importantly a heart that is guided by conscience. These qualities will be honed and tempered through the guidance of a Jesuit education that places emphasis on Christ-centeredness, compassion, commitment to change, conscience, and competence. The philosophy program enables students to be inquisitive, critical and insightful thinkers, and conscientiously discerning thus able to emulate the core values needed for any professional career.

Students of philosophy learn to read carefully, think independently, communicate clearly, argue cogently, spot fallacies, clarify muddled reasoning, and identify questionable assumptions. Hence, any student who wishes to pursue formal education in the legal profession will find it much advantageous to enter the Philosophy – Pre-law Program. While providing a basic education in philosophy, the pre-law track places emphasis on the philosophy of law, social and political philosophy, moral theory, and courses that engage the student in the use of language, grammar, and argumentation. It is designed for students intending to pursue an advanced degree in law. It provides ideal training in the skills required for close, critical reading of legal texts. Students with this sort of background are especially well-suited for law school and the practice of law. The analytical skills one learns in philosophy courses are useful for legal analysis and make one a competitive candidate for law school. Aside from this, any profession that requires critical thinking skills, an ability to communicate well and work out problems will be suitable for a philosophy major.

Track 1: Foreign Service and International Relations The AB Philosophy (Foreign Service) Program aims to provide its students with an understanding of the current international system, its elements and the forces that shape and transform it.

Students will gain appreciation for the theoretical paradigms that guide intent, actions and behavior of the actors in the international system. Inter-disciplinary and comparative approaches are offered to the students as tools of understanding. A major objective is to form students with a wider perspective of the world preparing them for their future career.

The program includes courses in Philippine Foreign Relations that are designed to provide students with a comprehensive analysis of the nuances of foreign policy, diplomacy and negotiations. Students are also trained to view their own Philippine culture vis-à-vis the regional and global context they are situated in.
Graduates of this program are trained to craft academic and policy-oriented research in understanding and responding to the immediate and future global issues and problems.

This program is tailored for students whose career paths include: a) Foreign Service Corps/diplomatic affairs, b) intergovernmental organizations, c) international development organizations, and d) private sector e.g. multinational companies.

A well rounded philosophical background envisions that the graduates of this program shall enter the workforce equipped with critical thinking skills, sound decision-making tools and innovative problem-solving approach.

Psychology Department

BS Psychology The undergraduate programs in psychology provide initial training for those interested in teaching, research and the practice of psychology such as in the field of assessment, thus, passing the licensure examination for Psychometrician is a requirement to be able to practice. The program also provide preparation for graduate studies in psychology as well as further studies in other professions such as medicine, law, and business management.

Social Sciences Department

AB Economics

The AB Economics program is designed to equip students with knowledge in economic theory and its applications and with essential skills for undertaking economic analysis. Intended to provide students with a more liberal education, the AB program emphasizes a strong theoretical foundation while incorporating more liberal arts subjects such as those in the humanities, and other social sciences. The AB curriculum is more flexible, giving students leeway to customize their program of study according to personal goals and interests.

AB Political Science

An undergraduate degree in Political Science must root itself in the changing dynamics of both the national and the global political landscape. It must keep abreast with the changes in theoretical narratives and methodologies through which political phenomena is observed, analyzed, and applied.

Theology Department

AB Religious and Values Education The program prepares the student in educating them on Catholic Faith, by stressing the integration of doctrine, morals and worship and the principles of values formation. They will likewise be honed in the critical formation component of religious and values education, its nature, and methodologies as well as offer them opportunities for developing their skills in pastoral planning and management, and in administering religious and values education programs and facilities. Moreover, the program will enable them to conduct action research in Religious and Values Education.

Thus, the graduates of this program are fully prepared not only in Religious and Values Education but also for a wide range of church ministry positions. To legitimize the graduates for teaching, the program qualifies them to take the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) with Values Education.
Values Education as their major or area of specialization, for two reasons: the curriculum includes the completion of 18 units of professional courses in education required with additional six (6) units of Practicum (Public school classroom teaching and Private School Campus Ministry Retreat or Recollection giving), and; the description of each course in Values Education included in the curriculum is based on the NCTBS-Based Table of Specification for Licensure Examination for Teachers 2009 (PAFTE Journal: A Publication of the Philippine Association for Teacher Education, Vol. 15 No. 1 May 2009).

Furthermore, the content, processes, and research experiences that the students will gain from the program will adequately prepare them for a Master of Arts in Religious Education or in any aligned masters program for Religious and Values Education.


College of Nursing

BS Nursing

BSN is a four-year program consisting of general education and professional courses. Professional courses are threaded through from the first year thru the fourth year with emphasis on the nursing concepts with corresponding Related Learning Experiences (RLE). The BSN program provides an intensive nursing practicum that will refine further the nursing competencies to ensure achievement of the BS N program outcomes required of an entry level nurse.

The BSN program aims to develop a professional nurse who is able to assume entry level positions in health facilities or community settings. The professional burse is capable of providing safe, humane, quality and holistic care to individuals in varying age, gender and health-illness status; healthy or at risk families; population groups; and community; singly or in collaboration with other health care providers to promote health, prevent illness, restore health, alleviate suffering and provide and provide end of life care.


College of Science and Engineering

Civil Engineering Department

BS Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering is a profession that applies the basic principles of science in conjunction with mathematical and computational tools to solve problems associated with developing and sustaining civilized life on our planet. Civil Engineering works are generally one-of-a-kind projects; they are often grand in scale; and they usually require cooperation among professionals of many different disciplines. The completion of a civil engineering project involves the solution of technical problems in which information from numerous sources and myriad non-technical factors play a significant role. Some of the most common examples of civil engineering works include bridges, buildings, dams, airports and hangars, ports and harbors, highways and railways, tunnels, river and shore improvement, lighthouses, dry docks, irrigations, flood protection, drainage, water supply, and towers. Civil Engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines both in terms of the range of problems that fall within its purview and in the range of knowledge required to solve those problems.

Electronics and Computer Engineering Department

BS Computer Engineering

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BS CpE) is a program that embodies the science and technology of design, development, implementation, maintenance and integration of software and hardware components in modern computing systems and computer-controlled equipment
With the ubiquity of computers, computer – based systems and networks in the world today, computer engineers must be versatile in the knowledge drawn from standard topics in computer science and electrical engineering as well as the foundations in mathematics and sciences. Because of the rapid pace of change in the computing field, computer engineers must be life – long learners to maintain their knowledge and skills within their chosen discipline.

An important distinction should be made between computer engineers, electrical engineers, other computer professionals and engineering technologists. While such distinctions are sometimes ambiguous, computer engineers should satisfy the following three characteristics: (1) Posses the ability to design computers, computer – based systems and networks that include both hardware and software and their integration to solve novel engineering problems, subject to trade – offs involving a set of competing goals and constraints. In this context, “design” refers to a level of ability beyond “assembling” or “configuring” systems; (2) Have a breadth of knowledge in mathematics and engineering sciences, associated with the broader scope of engineering and beyond that narrowly required for the field; (3) Acquire and maintain a preparation for professional practice in engineering.

BSCpE program has been designed to produce career – ready students such that students can already take several globally – recognized IT certification exams. Its curriculum has been designed to prepare students to take globally – recognized IT certification exams, such as: (1) C Programming Language Certified Associate (CLA); (2) C++ Certified Associate Programmer (CPA); (3) C++ Certified Professional Programmer (CPP); (4) Python Certified Associate Programmer (PCAP); (5) Linux Essentials Professional Development Certificate; (6) CISCO Certified Entry-Level Network Technician (CCENT); and (7) CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA). This skill certification will therefore make them eligible for employment in companies that require their qualified skills.

BS Electronics Engineering

In consonance with the field of specializations of the Electronics Engineering Profession stipulated in Section 5, Article 1 of the Republic Act 9292 also known as Electronics Engineering Law, the degree program herein shall be called BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING (BSECE).

The scope and nature of practice of the Electronics Engineer shall embrace and consist of any work or activity relating to the application of engineering sciences and/or principles to the investigation, analysis, synthesis, planning, design, specification, research and development, provision, procurement, marketing and sales, manufacture and production, construction and installation, tests/measurements/control, operation, repair, servicing, technical support and maintenance of electronic components, devices, products, apparatus, instruments, equipment, systems, networks, operations and processes in the fields of electronics, including communications and/or telecommunications, information and communications technology (ICT), computers and their networking and hardware/firmware/software development and applications, broadcast/broadcasting, cable and wireless television, consumer and industrial electronics, electro- optics/photonics/optoelectronics, electromagnetics, avionics, aerospace, navigational and military applications, medical electronics, robotics, cybernetics, biometrics and all other related and convergent fields; it also includes the administration, management, supervision and regulatory aspects of such works and activities; similarly included are those teaching and training activities which develop the ability to use electronic engineering fundamentals and related advanced knowledge in electronics engineering, including lecturing and teaching of technical and professional subjects given in the electronics engineering (RA9292, 2004)

Bachelor of Engineering Technology major in Computer Engineering Technology

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology Major in COMPUTER ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY degree is a ladderized three-year program which provides knowledge and skills necessary for graduates to secure employment as competent and committed technologists/technicians. Some professional and most core courses in this program incorporate ethical, social and environmental values.

BET program has been designed to produce proficient students such that after every year finished, a corresponding skill certification will be issued to the students by the University. Its curriculum has been developed to prepare the students to take international industry-recognized certifications, particularly the in CISCO Certified Entry-Level Network Technician (CCENT), and CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA). This skill certification will therefore make them eligible for employment in companies that require their qualified skills.

Mathematics Department

BS Mathematics

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (BS Math) degree program “provides students with substantial exposure to the breadth and depth of mathematics, from classical to contemporary, and from theoretical to applied. The curriculum covers foundational courses in core areas of mathematics/applied mathematics as well as advanced courses that will help prepare graduates to pursue higher studies or work in a variety of fields” (CMO n. 48 s. 2017, p. 5).
Natural Sciences Department

BS Biology

The BS Biology program is structured as a generalized framework of study with the end view of grounding students with the fundamental concepts, principles, and theories of the biological, natural and physical sciences and the conduct of research. The core program in the curriculum ensures the basic concepts of biology: structure/function; regulation, growth; development and evolution. The program is designed also to meet the needs of professional biologists who can engage in research in all levels of biological complexity from the molecules to ecosystems, where their properties and interactions are analyzed through the acquisition and application of skills and training in the processing and presentation of biological information.

BS Environmental Management The BS Environmental Management program is an inter-disciplinary study that provides students with relevant knowledge, tools, and skills to identify and assess qualitative and quantitative, scientific and technical components of environmental issues. This program incorporates avenues for students to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge in sound environmental protection, conservation, utilization, planning, and management. The program is designed to meet the need for environmental managers who can engage in the complexities of the emerging and re-emerging environmental problems through an application of research and skills in the fields of air, soil, and water quality management, energy and resource management, planning and design, waste management, environmental impact assessment, conservation, geographic information systems, and environmental monitoring and modeling.
