ADNU and LGU Naga Present during the GRID-DSS Culminating Activity

          The National Resilience Council (NRC) held the Culminating Activity for the Web-based Geospatial Risk Database (GRID) for COVID-19 Pandemic Response and Recovery – Coaching and Mentoring Phase last September 17, 2020. It was participated online by the different partner LGUs and Academe all over the country. Distinguished guests were also present in the event. Among them were the Secretary of National Defense and Co-chair for Government of the National Resilience Council (NRC), Sec. Delfin Lorenzana; the Chairman of the SM Prime Holdings and Co-chair for the Private Sector of NRC, Mr. Hans T. Sy; Convenor of the NRC,Amb. Roberto R. Romulo; Co-chair of ARISE Philippines, VAdm. Alexander Pama (Ret.); Dr. Manuel Dayrit, Former Dean-Ateneo School of Medicine and Former Secretary of Health; and Gen. Restituto Padilla, Spokesperson of the  National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19.

          Part of the program was the presentation of the StoryMap, the local dashboard made by each LGU, which will provide useful information about COVID19 in each locality. This dashboard is made possible through the guidance of the Xavier University, Epimetrics, National Resilience Council, Manila Observatory, CCAR Philippines, and the collaboration between the LGUs and their Academic Partners. The LGUs who participated in the culminating activities were: Cagayan de Oro City, Iloilo City, Muntinlupa City, Naga City, Zamboanga City, and Ormoc City.

          In Naga City, the presentation was done by Mr. Wilfredo Prilles, Naga City Planning and Development Coordinator. He explained that the dashboard is intended for the members of the Health, Emergency, and Response Task Force (HERTF), the one responsible for implementing measures and actions against COVID19 in the City. According to Mr. Prilles, the temporal and spatial information provided by the dashboard through graphs and map layers based from any available data will greatly help them in arriving at appropriate decisions and actions.

          Hon. Nelson Legacion, City Mayor of Naga and Chair of the HERTF, also gave his message to the organizers and participants. He acknowledged the assistance and capacity building received by the city from the organizers. He also mentioned his administration’s initiatives and plan in the fight against the current pandemic. On behalf of Fr. Robert Rivera,SJ, Ateneo de Naga University President, Ms. Bernie Poliquit delivered a message to all the participants.

          This activity is part of the NRC’s program to capacitate LGUs in responding to any disasters or pandemic using the Hazard, Exposure, and Vulnerability/Capacity (HEVC) principle towards resilience (R) in collaboration with their corresponding academic partners.
