The Ateneo Language Training Center (ALTC), in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Higher Education (OVPHE) and the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), successfully conducted the seminar-workshop “Why English Proficiency Matters & How the Aptis Test Gets You There” on August 5, 2026 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.at the Arrupe Convention Hall, Ateneo de Naga University.

With the theme, “The Workplace Advantage: Elevating Academic & Administrative Excellence,” the seminar gathered faculty members and administrators to strengthen their English communication skills and deepen their understanding of the Aptis English Test developed by the British Council.

Thirty-two (32) participants attended the seminar. The program featured insightful sessions on the importance of English proficiency in higher education, the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), and an orientation on the Aptis Test. Participants also engaged in a hands-on practice test, allowing them to experience the assessment firsthand and become familiar with its format.

The event was made more meaningful through the valuable expertise shared by the distinguished speakers, Dr. Jenifer Sevilla, Chairperson of the Literature and Language Department, and Mike Cabigon, Head of Market, English & Exams of the British Council Philippines. Furthermore, the active participation of attendees, who cooperated with enthusiasm and engagement, enriched the discussions and learning activities. The collaborative efforts of the organizing committee and support teams likewise contributed to the seminar’s success.

Through initiatives such as this, the Ateneo Language Training Center remains committed to promoting language excellence and equipping the Ateneo community with globally recognized English proficiency skills that enhance professional growth, workplace readiness, and academic excellence.
