17 July 2026 — International volunteers Engr. Miguel Silva Santos and Dr. Elena Amaral Asensio, together with their partner Dr. Maria Leonor Banha da Silva, paid a courtesy visit to ADNU President Fr. Aristotle C. Dy, SJ as an opportunity to formally present their month-long humanitarian community immersion program in Camarines Sur, which promotes neonatal health through a portable, climate-controlled neonatal incubator developed by the NGO Medical Open World.

Designed to be low-cost, lightweight, user-friendly, and easy to maintain, the incubator provides essential care for newborns in rural and resource-limited healthcare facilities. The discussion also explored opportunities for collaboration with local institutions and communities in advancing sustainable healthcare initiatives.

As part of their engagement with Ateneo de Naga University, the volunteers will conduct presentations and learning sessions for College of Nursing students and faculty, demonstrating the incubator’s design and development. Through these sessions, they hope to inspire future healthcare professionals by showing that meaningful humanitarian innovations can emerge from practical, accessible, and purpose-driven solutions.

Throughout their month-long stay, Elmer T. Sto. Domingo, Jr., Director of the Center for Community Development, and Ms. Andreana Martina L. Silerio, Program Coordinator for Network and Linkages, have been leading the planning, facilitation, and coordination of the immersion program in partnership with local institutions and stakeholders.

Through this initiative, Ateneo de Naga University continues to strengthen its commitment to international collaboration and partnerships in pursuit of sustainable and meaningful development for communities across Bicol.
