As part of its ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and prepared campus community, the Ateneo de Naga University held a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training Program on 2 June 2026. The event was organized by the Incident Management Team, headed by its Incident Commander, Elmer T. Sto. Domingo, Jr., Director of the Center for Community Development. The training program was attended by 31 participants, comprising 23 campus marshals, 4 non-teaching staff members, and 4 security personnel.
The training was designed to equip employees with the knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to medical emergencies in the university setting. Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, participants learned essential life-saving techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an AED, emergency assessment, and immediate response procedures for critical situations.
Guided by qualified trainers from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Naga City, headed by Jan Chlevene C. Macaraig, RM, EMT, SAR and his team (Rogelio P.Cala, EMT, SAR; Edelwiess B. Barroga, EMT, SAR; Jeffrey C. Sinfuego, EMT, SAR and Simon P Samson, EMT, SAR), the attendees had the opportunity to practice these skills in realistic scenarios, building confidence and competence to assist with emergencies. The program also highlighted the importance of quick decision-making, teamwork, and coordinated action in safeguarding the well-being of students, employees, and visitors on campus, especially the frontliners who play a key role in maintaining campus safety and order. The marshals and security personnel gained valuable emergency response capabilities that will enable them to act effectively when every second counts. Through initiatives like this, Ateneo de Naga University empowers its community members to respond to emergencies with competence, confidence, and compassion, ensuring that help is always within reach when it is needed most.
The BLS Training Program reflects Ateneo de Naga University’s continued efforts to strengthen a culture of preparedness and resilience. By investing in the development of emergency response skills among its personnel, the University reaffirms its commitment to creating a secure and supportive environment where learning and growth can thrive.
