ADNU OSA’s Virtus Receives National Awards for SAS Leadership, Service

Rodolfo “Sonny” SB. Virtus Jr., Director of the Office of Student Affairs, earned multiple national distinctions by the Philippine Association of Practitioners of Student Affairs and Services (PAPSAS) during the PEARL Awards held on April 30, 2026 at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, in celebration of the organization’s 30th anniversary.

The national awards program conferred Virtus the Regional Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions to student affairs and services (SAS) in Bicol. Under his leadership as President since 2021, the Bicol Council of Deans/Directors of Student Affairs and Services – PAPSAS Region V Chapter was also recognized with the Regional Chapter Award.

In addition, Virtus received the Service Award in recognition of his valuable contributions to the national goals and programs of PAPSAS, where he served as a national officer from 2022 to 2026.

Throughout his tenure, Virtus initiated and developed pioneering programs that strengthened SAS in the Bicol Region. These include the annual Bicol Young Leaders Summit (BYLS), the Bicol Orientation and Training on Student Affairs and Services (BOAT-SAS), and the Conversation Caravan (C2) series. These initiatives provided capacity-building opportunities and created accessible platforms for dialogue, collaboration, and the sharing of best practices across the region through trainings and orientations conducted in various Bicol provinces.

He also spearheaded the first study visit to Korea for SAS practitioners and presented the accomplishments of BCODDSAS during the International Association of Student Affairs and Services Global Summit. In collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education, he likewise supported several anti-illegal drug campaigns and organized the SAS sector in Naga City to conduct the Naga City Student Safety Summit in partnership with local government units and barangays.

During the awards program, Ateneo de Naga University was also conferred the Alliance Award in recognition of its continued support for both regional and national student affairs associations. The university has hosted several major programs, including the Bicol Young Leaders Congress and BOAT-SAS.
