22 May 2026 – The Ateneo de Naga University takes a step further into the future towards becoming a 100% Smart Campus, one of the four university directions under the leadership of ADNU President Fr Aristotle Dy, SJ. As part of the journey, the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) was launched, helmed by the Chief Information and Technology Officer Joshua Martinez. The DTO also closely collaborates with the Management Information Systems led by Estrella Montealegre and the Network Operations and Computer Services led by Engr Zero Magallon.
To mark the beginning of the launch, the blessing of the Graduate School HyFlex Space was held in the morning, with University Chaplain Fr Jose Embile, SJ leading the prayer. The HyFlex Space contains state-of-the-art sound systems for better communication lines and two touch-screen monitors for enhanced visuals. Dr Malu Barcillano, during her welcome remarks highlighted the importance of research in universities and how technology critically helps in the development of graduate school studies.
After the blessing of the Hyflex Space, the participants and guests transferred to the Bro. Richie Fernando, SJ Hall to witness the formal launch and the systematic implementation plan of the ADNU Smart Campus. Rooted in the Ateneo Experience, several new apps and innovations were presented, from grading and evaluation process, to smoother cashless transactions. Also highlighted were several hardware and program upgrades for better academic learning and workflows. Part of the project is also ADNU’s partnership with Asian United Bank – Naga, represented by Chinkee Claro-Sia and her team.
Also emphasized in the implementation is the core rootedness of ADNU in the humanities. In Fr Ari’s congratulatory speech, he opened how one deals with technology in the age of artificial intelligence. The importance of general subjects and the matters of ethical use of technology are also highlighted.
