In line with the University’s commitment to academic excellence and research advancement, the University Library successfully conducted an Information Literacy Session for Graduate School faculty and students on February 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The session, held at the Electronic Resources Center (ERC) and streamed via Google Meet, carried the theme “Empowering Research: Reorientation on Library Policies and Online Resources.”
The activity aimed to strengthen awareness and maximize the use of the library’s online resources, demonstrate access procedures and key database features, encourage the integration of library tools into teaching and research, and provide opportunities for consultation and collaboration.
Librarians, faculty members, and graduate students attended both onsite and virtually, reflecting the community’s strong support for research development initiatives. A highlight of the session was the participation of Mr. Ryan Salas, Training Specialist at EBSCOhost, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on EBSCOhost’s features and functionalities. He demonstrated how to navigate the platform, conduct basic and advanced searches, apply filters, access full-text articles, and utilize embedded research tools—equipping participants with practical strategies to enhance their scholarly research.
The session was facilitated by the University Librarian, Dr. Alma Kay A. Reyes-Abarientos, who provided an overview of the University Library’s policies, collections, sections, and services. She emphasized the various online resources and research tools available in the library to support graduate-level research, and highlighted services such as reference assistance, circulation, research support, and access to conducive study spaces and facilities.
To foster engagement and active participation, a raffle was conducted during the program, adding an element of excitement and appreciation for attendees.
Overall, the Information Literacy Session successfully enhanced research awareness and strengthened the information-seeking skills of Graduate School faculty and students. The initiative reaffirmed the University Library’s dedication to empowering research and supporting academic success through accessible, reliable, and high-quality information resources.
