Grad School and CHSS Faculty Participate in 16th Free Linguistics Conference

Two faculty members from the Graduate School and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Peñafrancia O. Reyta and Dr. Kevin Paul Dayan, attended the 16th Free Linguistics Conference 2025, held on October 23-25, at the University of Santo Tomas (UST). Dan Fereth Fajardo, a doctoral student in Language and Literacy Development, also presented the paper “Code-switching Dynamics of College Instructors in Online English Language Learning” at the conference.

The UST Department of English spearheaded the three-day international conference. Before the main event, Dr. Reyta and Dr. Dayan attended two pre-conference workshops designed to deepen expertise in specific linguistic disciplines. These workshops on Analyzing Filipino Discourse and Forensic Linguistics aim to provide participants with advanced training and contemporary insights relevant to their fields of research and instruction.

The conference’s main program featured several activities, including plenary talks, focus lectures, and parallel sessions on a wide range of topics, from the global impact of generative artificial intelligence on academic and research to writing attitudes, practices, and inclusivity for local languages. This event was attended by language scholars, educators, and researchers from across the world.
