Graduate School Conducts Research Colloquium

The Ateneo de Naga University Graduate School conducted a Research Colloquium with the theme “Strengthening Research Culture in the Graduate School” on April 5, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Alingal Multipurpose Hall, Ateneo de Naga University. The event was attended by both the students and faculty.

This activity aims to showcase and recognize the researchers’ work by giving them the opportunity to present their research findings and discuss in-depth various methodologies or approaches on how they completed their paper.

The morning session started with a prayer, followed by a welcome message from Dr. Digna P. Alba, Assistant Vice President of Higher Education, then afterwards the intent of the activity was presented by Dr. Malu C. Barcillano, Dean of the Graduate School.

Ms. Leciel R. Ramos, the Master of ceremonies for the morning session, introduced the five (5) AdNU student presenters, namely:

(1) Mr. Marjun Sedeño, a graduate of MAED major in Social Science, with research entitled “Partido Studies in Progression: Scholarships Through PARSU’s Scholarly Initiatives Towards History from Below” (Adviser: Dr. Michael Roland Hernandez) which focuses on the unchartered development of Partido Studies and it being a “building block” of Philippine and Bikol studies.

(2) Mr. Edmarc Royo, a graduate of MAED major in English Language Teaching, with research entitled “The lived experiences of Senior Highschool students and Teachers on the implementation of the Spider web discussion technique during blended learning” (Adviser: Dr. Ronaldo Elicay) which focuses on the experiences of Grade 11 students and a language teacher using SWD in blended learning environment in a private school in Naga.

(3) Dr. Ronald De Lemios, a graduate of Doctor of Philosophy in Language and Literacy Development with a research paper entitled “Constructive Alignment of writing instructions in mother tongue-based multilingual education” (Adviser: Dr. Evelyn Florece). His research examines how Grade 3 MTB-MLE teachers in three small elementary schools in Camarines Norte deliver writing instruction and whether it aligns constructively with the curriculum guide (cg) and Daily Lesson Logs (DLL).

(4) Dr. Ana Marie Aquino-Binalla, a graduate of Doctor of Business Administration with a research paper entitled “The entrepreneurial behavior of community stakeholders: basis of extension program for entrepreneurship education” (Adviser: Dr. Ricardo Diño) which examines the relationship of the extension program for entrepreneurship education with the predictor variables of the entrepreneurial intentions. The main participants were the extension program beneficiaries held from 2018 to 2020.

(5) Ms. Pevi de Ocampo, a graduate of MA Psychology major in Counseling Psychology, with a research paper entitled “The Role of Hiya in Filipino Recovering Drug Dependents’ experiences of relational trauma, substance use, and recovery” (Adviser: Dr. Lynette Mendoza). Her study explored the experience and role of hiya in Filipino Recovering Drug Dependents’ relational trauma, substance use, and recovery.

There was a short health break after the presentations, followed by an open forum. After which, there was an awarding of certificates and tokens to the presenters and a photo opportunity. The morning session ended at 11:30 am.

For the afternoon session, Dr. Jenifer R. Sevilla, the Master of ceremonies, introduced the four (4) AdNU faculty presenters, namely:

(1)  Dr. Leonor Lynette F. Mendoza. Dr. Mendoza is the co-author of this research by Ms. Arnie D. Delloro entitled “Presentation of the Construction of the SHS Diagnostic and Math Placement Test in Math”. The paper is about the process of how the ADNU SHS Diagnostic/Placement test in Math was constructed.

(2) Dr. Jesus Cyril M. Conde, with a research paper entitled “Metonimya ng Etnobotaniya sa Kasaysayan at Kultura ng mga Albularyo sa Irosin, Sorsogon”. His research is about the metonymy of plants and spirits in the history and culture of ‘albularyos’ in the town of Irosin, Province of Sorsogon.

(3) Mr. Leo Paulo I. Imperial, with a research paper entitled “TAMING THE TEMPEST: A Social History of Typhoons in the Bikol Region”. His study attempts to understand the impact of climatic changes on human activities.

(4) Dr. Victor John M. Loquias, with a research paper entitled “An Etika nin Pagpadangat: Lampas sa Antroposentrikong Pagkamoot”. His study focuses on the understanding of ethics based on the Bikolnon language and experiences of love.

There was a short health break after the presentations, followed by an open forum. The event was concluded by awarding the presenters with certificates of appreciation and tokens. There were 111 participants who attended the event.
