ADNU-Grad School Hosts 2nd part of the Lecture Series on AI’s Role in Various Academic Fields

The Ateneo de Naga University-Graduate School once again opened its virtual doors to scholars, educators, and professionals for the second run of its Lecture Series on Artificial Intelligence and Its Role in Various Academic Fields. Held last March 15, 2025, via Google Meet, the event aimed to foster awareness and discourse on AIs and its ethical implications in diverse academic disciplines.

Last Saturday’s session featured two well–respected speakers tackling AI and its ethical dimension in healthcare and education. Prof. Michael Joseph S. Diño, Director for Research, Development, and Innovation at Our Lady of Fatima University, delivered the first lecture on The Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Practice. His talk focused on the necessity and convenience of using AI applications in healthcare and research.  Dr. Diño began his lecture by discussing the challenges in the utilization of AI and proceeded to talk on the use of AI Applications in his field, which he referred as 3 P’s: Progression in drugs, diagnostics, and robots, Precision on health and medicine, and Production by forecasting and analysis. In the mid of his lecture, Dr. Diño engaged the participants in a gibberish guessing game to highlight key points and values in the use of AI, and finally summed his lecture with an acronym FAME (Foster, Adopt, Mentor and Enhance), underscoring the importance of maintaining human-centered care amid technological advancements and reminding participants to uphold ethical and professional standards.

The second topic, Using AI in Lesson Preparation and Its Ethical Considerations, was presented by Dr. Maria Ana G. De Guzman, an academic staff member from the University of Santo Tomas. She discussed how AI tools can enhance lesson planning and educational delivery while addressing the ethical concerns of AI dependency, academic integrity, and data privacy in education. In one of the highlights of her lecture, Dr. de Guzman differentiated the lesson plans created by three Generative AI applications and then pointed out the significance of the teacher’s critical assessment of the usage of these materials according to the student’s level and the teaching objectives. The lecture was very helpful to the participants as she suggested some applications that can assist in creating lesson plans, Powerpoint presentations, speaking practices, and even evaluation materials and quizzes.

The webinar also allowed participants to ask questions on the AI’s growing influence in academic and professional settings. The open forum further acknowledged the challenges of AI integration, reinforcing the need for ethical guidelines and responsible use. At the end of the event, attendees expressed their appreciation for the insightful presentations through words of gratitude in the comment section, as well as emoticons such as heart and hand claps.

Rialyn Dogcol, a PhD LLD student served as the emcee-cum-moderator for this engaging webinar.

With the increasing reliance on artificial intelligence across various fields, Ateneo de Naga University continues to spearhead conversations on AI ethics and best practices. The success of this second run underscores the institution’s commitment to preparing educators and professionals for a future shaped by AI-driven innovations.
