The Ateneo de Naga University-Graduate School hosted an interactive session on “Appreciating the Processes of Key Informant Interviewing: A Qualitative Research Data Collection” on February 15, 2025 with Dr. Margarita Felipe Fajardo, Dean for Research and Creative Endeavors as the resource person. Dr. Fajardo shared her expertise in conducting effective qualitative research through Key Informant Interviews (KIIs).
The Reading Area of the 3rd Floor of the O’Brien Library was packed with 49 thesis and dissertation writing students, three of them were faculty members. They were interested and all ears to the discussion of Dr. Fajardo on several important topics on the characteristics of a key informant, types of key informant interviews, the development of interview questions, the common errors in the interviewing process, and the ethics and conduct of key informant interviews. These topics provided attendees with essential knowledge and practical tools to conduct effective and ethical qualitative research. The session ended with an open forum.
The Office aimed to provide support to thesis and dissertation-writing students who would like to polish their knowledge and skills in KIIs as well as equip them to be ready for the challenges they might encounter in the conduct of their data-gathering activities. Likewise, graduate faculty members were also encouraged to attend to supplement them with the necessary insights so that they could give guidance to their students as they undergo this significant juncture of their thesis and dissertation writing.
The session proved to be an engaging and informative discussion on qualitative data collection methods that allowed the participants to enhance their understanding of Key Informant Interviews and enrich their research skills.
