The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) facilitated the ceremonial turnover of 20 additional laptops from CHEVRON Philippines Inc. to the Access E-Skwela student service of ADNU OSA, an initiative designed to support students in continuing their education by lending them gadgets for academic purposes. The virtual ceremony, which took place on January 20, 2025 via Zoom, was attended by key representatives from Ateneo de Naga University, Chevron, and ADNU HS 67 Alumni Association.
The ceremonial turnover kicked off with opening remarks from Jose Victor “Jojo” De Jesus, ADNU high school class of 1967, who also coordinated a fundraising campaign in support of this initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic. This campaign collected 50 Acer Chromebooks and benefited not only ADNU OSA E-Skwela but also other efforts of the university for the scholars. The Class ‘67 also assisted in other OSA’s outreach endeavors. One such effort is the “Raise a Roof” cause, which organized donation drives to support Ateneans in rebuilding their homes damaged by supertyphoon Rolly. Another initiative is the Project Homecoming aimed to assist stranded ADNU student-dormers/boarders in returning to their hometowns during the pandemic lockdown.
OSA Director Rodolfo “Sonny” SB. Virtus Jr. provided a brief overview of the Access E-Skwela service, emphasizing its development and implementation during an unprecedented health crisis. He mentioned that, in response to the challenges posed, the OSA organized a donation drive, and with the generous contributions of various individuals and organizations, Access E-Skwela has enabled students in adapting to online learning to meet their academic needs.
The Senior Corporate Affairs Advisor of Chevron, Atty. Raissa Bautista, did the short ceremonial turnover of laptops and also delivered an inspiring message about the donation and its positive impact on students. Following her address, ADNU University President Fr. Aristotle C. Dy, S.J. formally accepted the laptops and conveyed his gratitude for the generous contribution.
Also featured in the ceremonial turnover were the testimonials from previous borrowers of Access E-Skwela gadgets.
“Napakalaking tulong ang pagpapahiram nila ng laptop sa amin, lalo pa’t nakatira kami sa coastal area. Ibig sabihin, mahina ang internet at signal. Kaya napakalaking tulong ang mga laptop dahil doon—napapadali ang gawain ko,” shared by one of the previous borrowers.
Another shared that Access E-Skwela made tasks more manageable, providing a sense of empowerment and independence. An alumnus highlighted the service’s crucial role in remote learning, offering resources and support to sustain his college studies, participate in school activities, and remain connected.
Everyone expressed their gratitude to ADNU OSA, donors, and Chevron.
The Access E-Skwela service supports students in their studies by lending gadgets for academic use, with loans renewed each semester. Students can register to borrow a gadget via a Google Form provided by OSA at the start of each semester. The service is available to all students who need assistance.
