The Ateneo de Naga University (ADNU) – Graduate School conducted the Session on Validating Research Instruments on 5 October 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00NN at the Reading Area of the Fr. James O’Brien SJ Library. The session was attended by the graduate students enrolled in thesis and dissertation writing.

Dr. Ronaldo SP. Elicay, Program Director of the ADNU Graduate School discussed the salient points about research instrument validation, which is vital in data gathering. As highlighted in the session, a validated research instrument will ensure that the needed information from the respondents will be acquired. Dr. Elicay reoriented the participants about validity, types of validity, and assessment instruments. He reiterated the importance of clarity, coherence, and accuracy in acquiring and preparing the research instrument. Further, he thoroughly explained the requirements for identifying validators and presented examples of the transmittal letter, related literature, definition of terms, validation form, and actual instrument with scoring procedures, which are needed to properly go through the validation process. He also explained how the content validation index is computed and the percentage of acceptance that will determine whether the research instrument is valid or not.

After the presentation and discussion, Dr. Elicay entertained various questions from the participants relevant to their thesis or dissertation. The participants also requested advice from Dr. Elicay in choosing validators and the best practices in preparing the research instrument. The open forum also became a venue where the participants freely shared their ideas and insights in preparing their research instrument.

Through this session, the ADNU Graduate School fulfilled its commitment in providing excellent graduate education and producing Ignatian graduates who will give boundless contribution to the Bicol Region and the entire nation.
