The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and the Ateneo Higher Education Health Services Office (AHEHSO) organized a two-day consultation session at the University Gymnasium to discuss the Ateneo de Naga University Higher Education Drug-Free Campus Program, Policy, and Implementing Guidelines. This event took place on May 7-8, 2024, and registered a turnout of 1,018 participants, including student leaders and College Ignatian Formation Program and National Service Training Program classes.
During the consultation, OSA Director Rodolfo “Sonny” SB. Virtus Jr., and AHEHSO Administrator and Chair of the Drug-Free Campus Committee, Merle F. Palcon, engaged the attendees in a comprehensive discussion on the policy’s key points. They emphasized that the program adopts a holistic approach to address the potential issue of illegal drugs on campus.
The policy’s three essential components, namely prevention, regular random drug testing, and intervention, were highlighted as crucial tools in combating drug-related concerns. As a development, it was revealed that the implementation of random drug testing for students is scheduled to commence in the upcoming school year. This initiative aims to ensure a safe and drug-free environment for all students.
