The Ateneo de Naga University-Graduate School together with the University Research Council conducted a Webinar entitled “Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on Teaching-Learning and Research in Higher Education” on April 5, 2024, via Zoom.
This activity which was participated by the Graduate School Faculty and students of the Ateneo de Naga University aims to: understand what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all about including its uses and its impact on Teaching-Learning and Research in Higher Education; acquire the basic skill in identifying and/or detecting AI-generated content/material; and appreciate the value of AI in Teaching-Learning and Research.
The resource speaker was Dr. Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy, the Director of the Information and Communication Technology Development Office at the University of the Philippines Open University.
He discussed the following: Introduction of Artificial Intelligence, Convergence of Education & AI, and Theory behind Generative AI, Applications of AI in Education, and Consequences of AI and Postlude.
There was an open forum between the Speaker and the participants. The speaker recommended working closely with Technical Savvy in resolving issues upon using AI-generated paper work.
Dr. Pugoy said that “Artificial Intelligence is simply a tool. It depends on the person using it.” He stated that we should always exercise caution in using AI. The human supervision will always be relevant and important and we must resist cynicism and fear about IA. Thus, we should all be educated about it.
The whole Online Learning Session was moderated by Ms. Ma. Filipinas H. Bana, Chairperson, Media Studies Department and Graduate School Faculty of Ateneo de Naga University. Throughout the session, attendees delved into discussions on strategically leveraging A.I. tools in the academe.
The online event was successfully concluded with the assistance of Staff and Desktop Support Personnel from James O’Brien Library and Network Operations and Computer Services namely, Emmanuel Llorin and Xeena Almendral.
