AdNU-CLG Highlights PMAG Education through session on Research

The Ateneo de Naga University through the Center for Local Governance (AdNU-CLG), together with the Graduate School, and in partnership with the Association of Schools of Public Administration in the Philippines, Inc. delightedly opened the Webinar Series on Navigating the Pedagogy of Public Administration in the New Normal with its second session focusing on Research entitled “Developing Research to Strengthen PMAG Education in Response to Societal Issues” on October 13 , 2023 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm live via AdNU-CLG social media accounts. 

The said webinar responds to the focus question, “As a pedagogue, how would you develop research to strengthen Public Management, Administration, and Governance (PMAG) Education in response to societal issues?”. 

With this, the discussion highlighted how Public Management, Administration and Governance (PMAG) education is aligned with the Philippine Medium Term-Development Plan, Ambisyon Natin 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing societal needs and supporting national development goals. Additionally, it was stressed that PMAG research should prioritize the needs of the Philippines and expand research production beyond the NCR which entails  strong institutional commitment, adequate resources, enhanced capacity, and a conducive environment for research to flourish.

The webinar began in the virtual presence of  Fr. Roberto Exequiel N. Rivera, S.J, University President, Ateneo de Naga University, where he delivered a warm and motivational opening message.

Dr. Ador R. Torneo, a Professor of Political Science and Development Studies, and Director of the Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance,  De la Salle University, discussed the Philippine PMAG Education which is vital for national development and societal needs. 

The open forum was moderated by  Dr. Marshal Murillo, Program Director of  MPA and MBA Cluster, Graduate School of Ateneo de Naga University, where the virtual space was flooded with thought-provoking questions regarding applied discipline, specialization at the bachelor’s level, the new normal of public administration, and other related topics on navigating the pedagogy of public administration addressed to Dr. Torneo.

To conclude the online event, Dr. Jack B. Isolana, Auditor of Association of Schools of Public Administration in the Philippines, Inc., delivered his closing message.

On record, the said webinar was attended by more than a thousand combined viewers both on AdNU Center for Local Governance Facebook Page and Ateneo CLG YouTube channel with participants representing various sectors as well as students and faculty members from schools and universities across the country.

The webinar is hosted by Ms. Cecille Manzo-Daza, a Graduate School Student of the Master of Public Administration of Ateneo de Naga University.

The webinar was successfully concluded with support from the technical team at the James O’Brien Library namely, Sherwin Perez and Emmanuel Llorin (led by Ms. Edna San Buenaventura, University Librarian).
