The Ateneo de Naga University-Center for Local Governance (AdNU-CLG), a member of the Local GovernanceTraining Research and Institutes-Philippine Network (LoGoTRI-PhilNet) of the Local Government Academy (LGA) in the region, in coordination with the Ateneo de Naga University-Graduate School, and in partnership with the Regional Cybercrime Unit 5, opens the year 2023 in a battlecry entitled‘AMACANA KAKASCAM!: A Cybercrime Education for a Safe Cyberspace that aims to raise awareness of its risks to eradicate digital threats, thus functioning better in a cyber environment.
Cybercrime poses a major risk to our personal and financial security, as well as our online identity. With the widespread use of technology and the internet, it is crucial that we take proactive measures to prevent and tackle cybercrime, to ensure the safety of our personal information and protect against potential harm, this requires staying informed about the latest techniques used by malicious persons and implementing measures to prevent and address cybercrime.
The webinar started with an Opening Message delivered by Dr. Malu C. Barcillano, Director of Center for Local Governance, and the Dean of the Graduate School.
PSMS Leah Sancha, WCPD Cyber Crime Investigator & Cam Sur Anti-Cybercrime Response Team, Racu5 ,conducted a discussion about cybercrime and the related laws. She also mentioned some real-life cases that occurred in Naga City, highlighting the increasing importance of cybersecurity. PSMS Leah emphasized the need for people to be aware of the dangers of cybercrime and to take precautions to protect themselves from falling victim to it. She concluded her talk by encouraging everyone to stay informed and educated on the subject and to support the efforts being made to eradicate cybercrime.
PSSG Eddie Madregalijos and PSSG Carlo Pacardo, Cyber Crime Investigator & Cam Sur Anti-Cybercrime Response Team, Racu5, shared a presentation on online scams and how to avoid them. They shared valuable tips on how to stay safe while navigating the online space. They also introduced several apps and tools that can help prevent breaches in cybersecurity. They emphasized the importance of being cautious and vigilant, especially when it comes to sharing personal information and making financial transactions online.
The said Hybrid webinar was joined by almost one hundred twenty (120) combined number of livestream viewers through live streaming via ADNU CLG social media accounts and registered onsite participants at Richie Fernando Hall coming from various academic institutions and government sectors across the nation.
Ms. Maria Cecilia Manzo, MPA Student of Ateneo Graduate School, moderated the Hybrid webinar and open forum. Several questions were submitted via Google Forms and Facebook/Youtube comment sections, and the speaker graciously responded to all of them.
The successful completion of the activity was achieved through the collaborative efforts of Fr. James O’Brien Library’s technical support team, headed by Ms. Edna San Buenaventura, University Librarian, tech members Sherwin Perez and Emmanuel Llorin, and the support of our office angels, the CLG student assistants, Krizzia Mae Tapar and Katrina Jane Bautista.
