ADNU OSA Leads Collab with LGU Naga for Student Safety

NAGA City, August 9, 2022 – The Philippine Association of Practitioners of Student Affairs and Services, Inc. (PAPSAS) – Region 5 Chapter, represented by SAS Directors of Naga City schools, met with City Mayor Nelson S. Legacion and other city officials to discuss student safety and campus security concerns, and explore collaborative undertakings between the LGU and the schools.

The PAPSAS Regional President Rodolfo “Sonny” SB. Virtus Jr. of ADNU initiated the meeting with Mayor Legacion, after gathering the support of Naga City schools’ officials, including ADNU University President Fr. Roberto Exequiel N. Rivera, S.J. Maria Josephine Reyes, ADNU OSA’s Coordinator for Student Support Services and Linkages, also attended the meeting at the City Hall.

During the meeting, the two parties agreed to implement a number of action plans. These efforts aimed at reinforcing the following student safety measures of the schools and LGU: (1) student housing facilities which are operating without business permit and fire safety inspection certificate, (2) illegal sale and consumption of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages within 100 meters from the campuses, (3) food safety in business establishments outside the schools, and the city’s (4) traffic situation as students return to their campuses for limited face-to-face classes.

Further, Mayor Legacion promised to visit the schools and conduct a series of Town Hall Meeting to continue listening to the students’ concerns and aspirations, and aligning them with his administration’s priority programs and services.

Aside from ADNU representatives, the other participating schools were Universidad de Sta. Isabel, University of Nueva Caceres, Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology, and Naga College Foundation, Inc. Officials from the City Treasurer’s Office, City Engineer’s Office, Public Safety Office, and Bureau of Fire Protection also took part in the meeting.
