ADNU-CLG Airs The Naga City Mayoral Interview Series 2022

In the upcoming 2022 National election, the public will begin to make crucial decisions by choosing the leaders who will occupy national and local government positions. This collective and civic duty is instrumental in forming a government that establishes multiple and complimenting programs, championing various policies centered on improving the people’s lives while advancing principles of good governance.

The Ateneo de Naga University-Center for Local Governance in collaboration with AdNU-Ignatian Legal Apostolate Office, James O’Brien S.J. Library, ADNU Supreme Student Government, Ateneo Personnel Club, Ateneo College Faculty Club, Ateneo Senior High School Faculty and Staff Club, Ateneo Junior High School Faculty and Staff Club, Ateneo Grade School Faculty and Staff Club premiered ‘KANDIDATALKS PARA SA NAGUEKNOWS’: The Naga City Mayoral Interview Series 2022 with its theme ‘Ang matinong pagpili, Nagueñong ugali!’ last April 22, 2022, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  It was done following the respective time slots assigned to the Mayoral Candidates via the Ateneo de Naga University Facebook Page, Ateneo CLG Facebook account and page, Ateneo CLG YouTube channel, and, all social media accounts of said partner offices.  The following four (4) out of five (5) mayoral candidates, namely, Atty. John G. Bongat, Mr. Ferdinand B. San Joaquin, Atty. Nelson S. Legacion and Mr. Fortunato P. Mendoza participated in the said event.

This is the university’s collective initiative in contributing to the discernment process of the public, particularly with its purpose of opening citizens’ minds in welcoming generosity and enthusiasm in service, to discover endless potentials one candidate must possess in striving for excellence with a sense of compassion, to be men and women for others in creating a better future for our society in envisioning good governance for 2022 and beyond.

The recording took place last March 29, 2022, with each mayoral candidate for a recorded one-on-one interview with the same set of questions and time limit where they were given the opportunity to address and provide their concrete solutions concerning pressing city-wide issues and topics with time limit assigned.

Each interview consists of a 4-part segment. In the first part of the forum, the candidate gives his opening statement and presents his respective platform of government that directly address the basic services and all sectors of the community where he is expected to bring out his plans and programs for the City of Naga. The second part is an issue-based question and answer portion with formulated questions that affect the city’s welfare specifically on Health, Education, Employment, Peace and Order, Business Sector, Infrastructure, Environment, Agriculture, Youth Sector, and the like. The third part is the “Fast Talk” and “Real Talk” answerable by “Yes or No” only with the goal to reveal one’s character or attitude through randomized questions. Lastly, the candidate gives his final statement by answering, ‘why should you be the next mayor of the city?’

The said interview series was hosted by Ms. G-ann N. Borja, a 3rd-year college of law student while Fr. Roberto Exequiel N. Rivera, S.J., University President, gave his opening and closing message.

With the premiere of all interviews, it garnered approximately more than four thousand combined viewers from the streaming platforms abovementioned. To further widen the reach of this significant event, on-site viewing at the University Gymnasium from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm was utilized by the general public and barangay Tabuco where they complied with the COVID-19 health standard and protocols imposed by the university to ensure everyone’s safety.
