1 August 2020 — The Center for Community Development (CCD), in partnership with the City Government of Naga,  hosted two Ignatiana Outreach Activities as part of the celebration of the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The two outreach projects were tree planting and disinfection of public vehicles.

The University anchored its tree planting activity with the City’s Forest in our Midst. The participants planted over 120 native and fruit-bearing trees at the Barangay Balatas riverbank. This activity served as a response to the urgent call of global ecological conversion.

On the other hand, the disinfection of public vehicles is the university’s contribution to help mitigate the spread of the virus within the city. Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion attended the opening program at the Plaza Quezon and heartily encouraged the drivers to participate in the activity. This whole-day activity resulted to having 530 public utility vehicles such as jeepneys, e-trikes, and tricycles as well as several armored cars disinfected. Th activity was spearheaded by the Physical Plant Administration (PPA) with the assistance of the Public Safety Office (PSO).

Despite the rise of the COVID-19 cases in the city, a cluster of administrators, faculty, and staff have willingly participated in the above mentioned activities while following the safety protocols. This shows that volunteerism and magis are still alive especially during this time of the pandemic. Ateneans continue to step up and take the challenge to show what Ignatian spirit is all about—giving back to the community as a way of honoring God.
