The Ateneo de Naga University Graduate School – Master in Public Administration (MPA) students conducted a lecture-seminar for millennials on Managing the workplace, entitled “Winning Over the Next Generation of Leaders and Managers” on 6 October 2018 (Saturday) at 1:00-4:00 in the afternoon at the Function Room, Fr. Godofredo Alingal, SJ Building, Ateneo de Naga University.
The activity, which was participated by senior college students and fresh graduates, aims to demonstrate how millennials differ from other generations in terms of leadership and managerial roles in career building. It is also to develop practical and concrete leadership and managerial skills that are essential for millennials. Further, it is to understand the core leadership and managerial values and qualities to adapt in the working environment that one resides in.
The activity started off with a workshop having these focus questions, “How do you view yourself as a manager 5–10 years from now?; What are the attributes or qualities of a good leader or manager?”
Three (3) MPA students were the resource speakers, namely, Sean B. Serrano, Engineer II of DPWH Camarines Sur 2nd District Engineering Office, Mariss B. Roque, Pharmacist IV of Pharmacy of Bicol Medical Center, and Jason F. Rieza, Disbursing Officer II of the Department of Education-Canaman Central School. They are affiliated in the fields of infrastructure, health and education in the public sector, respectively.
The resource speakers were able to highlight the importance of knowing oneself as a millennial and its relevance in determining their careers in life. They were able to share tips on how to further develop their leadership capacities, including different methods they can use to be an effective leader and manager in their chosen field. They also showed the current reality in each of the speaker’s current fields and learning to manage expectations when one enters their vocation.
The lecture-seminar was organized by the PA201 – Principles of Management and Organization class handled by Dr. Jennifer San Jose under the MPA program headed by Dr. Malu Barcillano as Program Director.
