The Naga City local government unit invited the Ateneo de Naga University to participate in the Naga City Arbor Day Celebration. ADNU, in its advocacy for caring for our common home, answered the call and participated in the Naga City Arbor Day celebration by planting trees in the designated reforestation area in the buffer zone of Mt. Isarog Natural Park (MINP) in Brgy. Panicuason, Naga City in the morning of 16 June 2018. Students, faculty and staff volunteers answered the invitation of the Naga City LGU and joined the activity of planting more than 5,000 seedlings in the target area along with other volunteers.
In the afternoon of the Arbor Day, the ADNU community through the Physical Plant Administration (PPA), Banhi for Environmental Sustainability (BS Envl Management co-curricular student organization) and the Institute for Environmental Conservation and Research (INECAR) joined another tree planting activity initiated by a civic society group, Naga KomuniTree, headed by Ana Kristina Dacudao. This initiative is focused on planting and growing Narra Trees (Narra being touted as the basis for the name of our city of Naga) within the highly urbanized center of Naga City.
A total of 33 Narra seedlings grown by the PPA from collected seeds was provided by ADNU and was planted along the easement portion of the Naga River in Brgy. Balatas. Banhi members and INECAR volunteers joined the group in planting the seedlings.
