ATTC Hosts INSET for Private JHS Administrators

The Ateneo Teacher Training Center hosted the four-day In-Service Training for Private Junior High School Administrators, which was organized by the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), last 14-17 February 2018 at the Alingal Convention Center.

The Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) has been commissioned by the Department of Education (DepEd) to implement the In-Service Training (INSET) program as mandated by the EGASTPE law or RA 8545 that emphasizes the need to improve the quality of education in the country by maximizing the use of resources in the private education sector. With the government’s implementation of the K to 12 program, PEAC provides school administrators professional development opportunities to update them on various academic and policy developments to ensure compliance with the curriculum and school operation requirements. PEAC is also an accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provider of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), thus participants of said JHS Administrators INSET shall earn CPD units.

In line with this, the PEAC organized the Institute for Private Junior High School Administrators, a four-day seminar-workshop for private junior high school principals and other administrators, with the theme, “Understanding and Designing a Standards-based School Improvement Plan.” The seminar workshop expected the participants to (1) describe the nature, framework and components of a standards-based school improvement plan, (2) draw out the pertinent requirements set by DepEd and certification standards and policies affecting curriculum, instruction and assessment and academic support areas as well as other operations for school compliance and implementation, (3) design a school improvement plan based on inputs from standards and policies.

Topics covered for day one were: K-12 Standards-based Curriculum, Standards-based Assessment, Instructional Leadership and the Preparation of Standards-based School Improvement Plan.

For day two, topics included were: Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), Student Services and Career Guidance.

Day three covered topics such as Updates on Policies and Legislations on Basic Education and School Administration, School Budgeting and Financial Management and Physical Plant and Instructional Support Facilities and Resource Management.

The last day was spent for developing a Strategic Plan to integrate Technology for their respective schools and consolidation of the different sections of their Standards-based School Improvement Plan.

Renowned speakers were Dr. Miguel Q. Rapatan (DLSU), Miss Jennifer Lopez, DepEd Region VI-A, Ms. Josephine Bernardino, PEAC Certification Unit, Ms. Josephine Bargas, St. Scholastica’s College, Atty. Noel Joseph Estrada, Managing Partner—Estrada and Aquino Law Office, Fr. John Christian Young, Preident-Father Saturnino Urios University, Sr. Ma. RufinaB. Guillano, President, Lourdes College, and Mr. Jose Maria T. Policarpio, President and Chief Consultant, JPT Learning Solutions.

Rhodora Angela F. Ferrer, PEAC Executive Director, gave updates on the GASTPE Programs Implementation before the INSET officially ended.

A total of 213 school administrators from all over the Region participated in the said In-Service Training. Mr. Gilbert L. Pado, PEAC Regional Program Associate, served as master of ceremonies. Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit, ATTC Director and PEAC Regional Program Coordinator, was the overall-in-charge of the conduct of said training with the assistance of Cornelia O. Lurcha and Julio Alberto Bricia.
