The Ateneo Teacher Training Center (ATTC), the first PRC Accredited CPD Provider for Professional Teachers in the Philippines, sponsored a National Seminar-Workshop on Teaching Quantitative and Qualitative Research last 1-3 December 2017 at the Arrupe Convention Hall. 85 teachers participated in the seminar-workshop.
The seminar covered a discussion on nature of research, stating the research problem for qualitative and quantitative research, how to conduct the review of related literature, research designs and approaches for qualitative and quantitative, sampling designs and data collection approaches for qualitative and quantitative research, method of analysis for quantitative and qualitative data and how to report and sharing research findings.
It also highlighted the specific pedagogical and research exercises that encourage reflection of practice and in teaching research in various levels and disciplines. At the end of the seminar-workshop, the participants were expected to:
1. Build upon a wide understanding of the processes of doing qualitative and quantitative research and teach them how to prepare a research paper.
2. Appreciate the ground rules of doing qualitative and quantitative research by exploring a well-thought research topic/problem, and
3. Demonstrate the research skills by completing an individual and/or group research plan.
Invited resource speaker was Dr. Michael A. Clores, a renowned researcher. He has published numerous researches both in the local and international referred journals. He obtained his two doctorate degrees, Ph.D. in Science Education and Ph.D. in Biology from De La Salle University.
