The City Government of Naga recognized the Dugong Atenista program of Ateneo de Naga University during the 1st Dugong Nagueño Awards, which was held on June 14, 2017 at the Naga City People’s Hall.
The University earned a Plaque of Commendation for having the most number of donations by an organization in Naga City in 2016. The two Dugong Atenista blood drives conducted in School Year 2016-2017 collected 554 blood units.
On the same occasion, the Bicol Medical Center also acknowledged ADNU for its contribution to the blood needs of the victims-patients of supertyphoon Yolanda in 2014. ADNU donated more than 300 bags of blood to a hospital-ship in the disaster-torn Tacloban, Leyte.
The Dugong Atenista program has been sustained by the Office of Student Affairs and its partners since 2007, collecting a total of 4,964 blood bags from 20 bloodletting activities. Through the program, partner hospital BMC is able to provide ready and safe supply of blood for any of ADNU’s members and their immediate families. The collected blood is also used by BMC for the needs of its patients, so the ADNU’s program serves not only its internal community but also Bicol.
Now on its 11th year, the OSA and its partners are committed to sustain the program. The next blood drive is scheduled on August 19.
