Naga City – Ateneo Teacher Training Center (ATTC), the first CPD Provider for Professional Teachers, partnered with the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) in the conduct of the In-Service Training (INSET) for Junior and Senior High School teachers from all over the Region held at Ateneo de Naga University, Naga City on 22-24 and 26-28 May 2017.
The PEAC In-Service Training for Junior High School was a capacity building program that addresses the need of private school the administrators and teachers to strengthen and continuously upgrade the quality of their school’s instructional programs.
With the theme: “Designing, Assessing and Facilitating Learning for the K to 12 Standards Curriculum”, the in-service training was designed to: (1) identify the general goal of the K to 12 standards-based curriculum, (2) discuss the process of unpacking learning goals and learning targets from the standards and competencies of a curriculum unit, (3) design standards-based assessment and instructional materials, (4) explain the characteristics of learner-centered instruction, (5) facilitate in a learner-centered way students’ acquisition of unit competencies, understanding of key concepts and transfer of learning, and (6) examine classroom instruction procedures using the PEAC Evaluation Sheet for Classroom Instruction.
A total of 667 junior high school teachers were trained to deliver quality instruction in Math, English, Science, Filipino and Araling Panlipunan.
INSET for Senior High School teachers was intended for the participants to enhance assessment techniques and expose them to active teaching strategies. There were 773 senior high school teachers in 14 different core subjects of the SHS curriculum.
On 25 May, a Regional Orientation on the Guidelines of the JHS Education Service Contracting (ESC), Teacher Salary Subsidy (TSS), and SHS Voucher Programs was held at the Villa Caceres Hotel. There were 293 and 391 school heads attended the JHS and SHS Orientation, respectively. Fr. Primitivo E. Viray, Jr. SJ welcomed the participants and guests and asked everyone for prayers for Marawi City. DepEd Regional Director, Ramon Fiel G. Abcede gave updates on the ESC and SHS Programs in the Region. The key discussant on the two programs was Mr. Rodrick Malonzo, PEAC Senior Officer.
All preparations for the three events run in one week was headed by Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit, ATTC Director and PEAC Regional Program Coordinator, with the assistance of PEAC Regional Secretariat—Mr. Gilbert L. Pado and Ms. Cornelia O. Lurcha and with the special support of Dr. Ma. Jeanette O. Naval and Mr. Julio Alberto Bricia.
