The Ateneo de Naga University (ADNU) welcomed, for the second time, His Excellency Jaroslav Olsa Jr, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Philippines last 2 March 2017. Ambassador Olsa first visited the University a year ago for the launching of Kristian Cordero’s Bikol translation of Franz Kaftka’s The Metamorphosis. This time the Ambassador visited ADNU to personally hand-in the Czech Republic’s humanitarian assistance to those who were greatly affected by Typhoon Nina in 2016.

A Memorandum of Understanding which covers the details of the humanitarian assistance was signed between the Czech Republic and the Ateneo de Naga University — respectively represented by Ambassador Olsa Jr and Fr Primitivo Viray Jr, SJ.

After the MOU signing, a brief ceremonial turn-over of the assistance amounting to PHP1,960,000 followed. The assistance will provide shelter kits to 337 families in the municipalities of San Fernando, Bula, and Ocampo of the province of Camarines Sur to help them rebuild their homes. ADNU’s Center for Community Development, headed by Mr Elmer Sto Domingo Jr, identified and recommended the beneficiaries for the assistance.

After the brief ceremonies, the Ambassador, together with Fr Viray, proceeded to the municipalities to personally witness the distribution of the shelter kits to the family-beneficiaries.
