“To enrich the quality of education” – That was the essence of this year’s Tulong Dunong Program which showed the spirit of volunteerism through the collaboration of student organizations and offices. With the theme Living the Spirit: Amare et Servire, 5-day tutorial activity held at San Nicholas Elementary School Canaman, Camarines Sur, aimed to develop and enhance the students’ (from kindergarten to grade 6) knowledge and skills.

The Tulong Dunong activity was organized by the Center for Community Development (CCD) together with the CCD Voltz, in partnership with Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) Scholars headed by the former Dean of College of Education, Dr. Arnulfo Aaron Reganit, Gabay Scholars, and Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA).

From 14-21 May 2016, the activity was comprised of tutorial sessions and feeding activities for the 151 students of San Nicolas Elementary School. 54 student volunteers stayed for one week in the community to teach Math, Science, English, computer literacy, and reading remediation — subjects in which the pupils are having difficulties. Aside from tutorials, alternative class activities were also conducted such as art workshop, origami making, and cultural dance workshop. A soccer and volleyball sports camp was also handled by the Naga City Football Club and CCD.

To sum up the one week experience, the volunteers had a recollection and evaluation facilitated by Br. Raymund Belleza, SJ.
