CLG Conducts Series of Training on Leadership Skills for Task Force on Youth Development

The Training on Leadership Skills for officer and members of the Task Force on Youth Development for the partner communities was successfully conducted by the Ateneo de Naga University-Center for Local Governance being the lead unit for governance, one of the areas of concern relative to the University Social Involvement Program on the following dates: 9 August 2015 (Magarao-Barangay Barobaybay, Casuray, and Ponong) with twenty-three participants; 16 August 2015 (Milaor-Barangay Flordeliz, Cabugao, and Mayaopayawan) with participants; and 30 August 2015 (Canaman-Barangay Fundado, San Nicolas, and San Roque) with nineteen participants.

The training involved discussion and workshop activities on Self Discovery, Organizational Analysis, Work Group Effectiveness, and Leadership Skills that enable participants to become aware of their vast potentials in becoming a good leader. Further, the discussion on how the group can work more efficiently with others in a cooperative effort towards the achievement of the organization’s goals was covered during the said training.

The volunteer-trainers were: Karlos Llorin, Chairperson of the Media Studies Department; Dr. Malu C. Barcillano, Director of the Center for Local Governance; Menandro S. Abanes & Noriko Hashimoto, faculty members of the Social Sciences Department; Emerlie M. Rayala, Information Officer of the University Social Involvement Council; John Joel A. Guerrero, Program Coordinator for Services of the University Health Services Center, respectively. There were student-volunteers, namely Hubert Senosin, Political Science student and Kathleen Mae Sevilla, Psychology student, both were from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences who assisted in the workshops. The series of training was coordinated and facilitated by Mr. Jay P. Abawag of the Center for Local Governance.

The said training is one of the priority programs having been identified by the partner communities during the consultation. Further, it is an intervention made as a response to the survey conducted by Ateneo Social Science Research Center (ASSRC) regarding the low participation of youth in policy and decision making in their respective Barangay Development Councils.
