The Ateneo de Naga University-Center for Local Governance conducted the Training on Administering Economic Enterprise for the Local Government Units (LGUs) in Camarines Sur on 23-24 July 2015 at the CLG Training Room, Ateneo de Naga University. The said training aims to assist the Local Government Units to properly administer and enhance the Local Economic Enterprises within the locality, thus, enabling them to generate income and provide better public service.
During the training, the issues and concerns of the LGUs in terms of Local Economic Enterprises were identified, followed by understanding the Local Economic Enterprise wherein the provisions in the Republic Act 7160 and Department of Budget & Management Local Budget Circular and the Nature of Local Economic Enterprise and Administering Economic Enterprise were presented and thoroughly discussed.
One example of Economic Enterprise is the Public Market. With this, Ramon J. Florendo, Acting Market Superintendent of the Market Enterprise and Promotions Office of Naga City, was invited to present the replicable practices of the Naga City Peoples’ Mall (NCPM). NCPM is an example of Local Economic Enterprise which is properly administered by the LGU. He presented the status, physical features & services, initiatives, sources of revenues, and challenges of the NCPM. The participants’ concern on actual administration of their Public Markets was responded by the Resource Person.
The training was concluded by the SWOT Analysis and initial action plans of the participants to be taken into account when they get back to their respective offices.
The training was attended by the Market Supervisors, Local Treasury Operations Officer 1, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators, Municipal Treasurers, City and Municipal Budget Officers, Municipal Engineers from LGU of Baao, Calabanga, Naga City and Pili.
The trainer was Mr. Nicolas Beda A. Priela, faculty of the Ateneo de Naga University and facilitated by Ms. Benita Michele C. Verdadero.
