2 to 4 June 2015 — Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit, Dean of the College of Education, and two faculty members presented their papers in the Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference held at Nanyang Institute of Education, Singapore.
With the theme: Leaders, Values and Citizenship for the 21st Century Education, the conference was held in conjunction with the 11th International CitizED Conference and the Arts, Humanities and Literature Conference 2015, with special sessions focusing on the themes of “Citizenship, Character and Values Education for the 21st Century.”
The conference provided a global platform for practitioners, researchers, educational leaders and policymakers to interact; share leading-edge research and best practices across schools and cultures; and forge innovative directions for educational research and practice. It presented complex educational realities that challenge conventional practice of leadership, values and citizenship education.
The conference also addressed two serious concerns in the 21st century education. The first concern: If educators are to act as agents of change, how and to what extent do we need to redesign our pedagogy to remain relevant? The second concern: What role should leadership play in the design and implementation of learning environments that promote authentic values and citizenship education for all our students?
Dr. Ma. Jeanette O. Naval and Mr. Amante Ama, with Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit as their mentor, presented their papers on the afternoon of the first day of the Conference. Their papers were on the mainstreamed environment and psychological development of special children of the SPED centers in selected cities in the Bicol Region, and on the effect of the BingOhm as an alternative method of teaching students on how to solve electric circuits.
The international conference was participated by more than 1,000 practitioners, educational leaders, researchers, and policy makers from twenty countries around the globe. Four higher learning institutions from the Philippines had their paper presenters namely, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, and Ateneo de Naga University.
