The University Social Involvement Council (USIC), through the Institute for Environmental Conservation and Research (INECAR) headed by Dr. Emelina G. Regis, had successfully finished the series of Seminar-Workshop on Solid Waste Management (Barangay Level) for the Ateneo de Naga University’s Partner Communities in Milaor, Magarao and Canaman last 22 August, 29 August, and 5 September 2014, respectively. The activity aims to draw capabilities, mobilize the partner communities, and provide full weight of Ateneo’s resources in the pursuit and advancement of actions and measures to conserve natural resources and protect the environment.
These series of activities were the follow-through of the previous activity conducted by INECAR – Environmental Awareness Survey on Solid Waste Management for the Partner Communities which happened last 17 and 19 December, 2013 and 7-8 January, 2014. The survey was designed to examine the current environmental awareness level that is intended to be used in identifying the priority areas of concern for environmental education. Thus, the seminar-workshop series started.
Jerico S. Lejano (INECAR) and Manuel P. Nicolas (Physical Plant Administration) were the resource persons for the seminar-workshop. Lejano gave inputs on Solid Waste Management, while Nicolas shared his knowledge on Composting and Organic Farming. The series of activities were facilitated by Rochelle P. Reyes, Ms. Ruth R. Lumbera, and Antonio F. Lanzuela, Jr. (staff from INECAR). Student volunteers from Ateneo de Naga Nature Crusaders who assisted in the activity were Ronnie C. Fernandez, April O. Camu, Nessalie C. Sabuero, and Ericka P. Bañaga. Colyn D. Faurillo and Jose C. Arnido, INECAR project staff also volunteered for the seminar-workshop.
On behalf of the University Social Involvement Council, the Institute for Environmental Conservation and Research extends its warmest thanks to the following Municipal Mayors, Hon. Rogelio A. Flores (Milaor), Hon. Salvador M. Señar, Jr. (Magarao), Hon. Emmanuel S. Requejo (Canaman), and the barangay officials of the AdNU partner barangays for their active participation during the seminar-workshop.
