ATENEO SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH CENTER

The Ateneo Social Science Research Center (ASSRC) was founded in 1970, initially to assist in corporate planning.
Inspired by the pioneering studies of Fr. Francis Xavier “Frank” Lynch, S.J., a prominent Jesuit social anthropologist, on rural development in the Bicol region, the ASSRC began to engage the broader field of social science research in 1974, studying real-life situations, particularly of the poor, and linking insights to broader development initiatives in the region.
Since then, the ASSRC has done over 200 research projects on varied social concerns, including poverty alleviation, rural livelihoods, child welfare, gender equity, education, local governance, biodiversity, and environmental risks.
