 Exposure visit to national government agencies undertaken

The senior Political Science students took part in the exposure visit organized by the Institute of Politics last 25-27 October 2004. The activities included visits to the House of Representatives, Senate, Malacañang Palace, and to the Supreme Court. As a formative experience, it primarily aims to provide the students with an orientation and actual observation of the various branches of the national government namely the legislative, executive and judicial institutions.

The students also had meetings with national  leaders such as House Speaker Jose De Venecia and Senate President Franklin Drilon. The Supreme Court Public Information Officer Atty. Ishmael Khan also met with the group.

Tindog Bikol! Discussion group launched    

TINDOG BIKOL! is an on-line forum that seeks to forge a union of Bikolanos in the struggle for economic, social, and political development of the Bikol Region, Philippines.

This lecture series, undertaken by the Ina nin Bikol Foundation Inc. (IBFI) with the Institute of Politics (IP), aims to promote Bikol solidarity to bring about a more cohesive move for transformation. Given the right social structure, the Bikol people can become agents of their own advancement. The first lecture-forum was held last 10 January 2005 at the Fernando Hall of Ateneo de Naga University

Bikol-USA Chicago has granted an endowment to IBFI for an annual lecture on human rights. This first lecture-forum discussed the right to development as a basic human right.

IP joins advocacy for juvenile justice         

The Institute of Politics has joined the Juvenile Justice Network (JJN) which actively works for the passage of the Comprehensive Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Bill. In a national conference held last 8 November 2004  at the Bayview Hotel along Roxas Blvd., Manila the group vowed to pursue a more vigorous advocacy work for the passage of the said bill.

Movement for Consumer-Responsive Naga City launched

A group of diverse organizations and individuals has been meeting regularly since the last quarter of the year 2004 to organize and work out a set of activities for the advocacy on consumer rights. Among the initial plans are the conduct of a consumer summit and the launching of a locally-initiated consumer awards, while at the same time sustaining the advocacy for consumer rights and welfare.

The group also initiated a dialogue with the bankers' association in the province wherein some client-oriented issues and concerns were discussed with the bank managers themselves.
