AdNU-CLG Launches its Online Poetry Reading Event on Voter’s Education

Responding to the resounding call of ‘magis’, the Ateneo de Naga University-Center for Local Governance (AdNU-CLG) in coordination with the Graduate School proudly launches ’ECHOES: Resonating Voter’s Consciousness through Spoken Words. It is an Online Poetry Reading Event anchored on literary works concerning Voter’s Education as an initiative of raising awareness and inspiration from selected poems, specifically in choosing the next leaders of the country, as we draw closer to the upcoming elections next year still in this time of pandemic.  It was premiered on August 27, 2021 (5:00 pm) and October 1, 2021 (3:00 pm), respectively via Ateneo Clg Facebook live and Ateneo CLG YouTube Channel.

The said online event hopes to encourage voters in reflecting through inspiring and thought-provoking poems from the published book ‘POEMS FOR LEADERS’, by Ina nin Bikol Foundation Inc of the Archdiocese of Caceres.  One of the creative minds of the said book is Fr. Wilmer Joseph S. Tria, Director of Ateneo de Naga University Press, thus, he was asked to give his keynote speech during the two (2) runs of the online event.

In unraveling the wonder of some literary works on leadership about vision and responsibility with some of the themes, namely, Faith and Prayer, Character and Influence, Love and Service, Success and Fulfilment, invited readers who are regarded as exemplary leaders in their respective fields of discipline and artists in their own rights delivered various poems: Dr. Sukarno Tanggol, Chancellor of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Agnes Villarruz, Managing Director of Gerry Roxas Foundation Roxas City, Dean Michville Rivera, Office of Student Affairs of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, Kenneth Abante, Research Faculty of Ateneo de Manila University, and Atty. Francia Padua Papica, Founder of Francis Padua Papica Foundation Inc. (FPPFI).

For the 2nd run of the online poetry reading event, a new esteemed panel of readers brought to life a new set of themes namely, Hopes and Dreams, Character and Influence, Love and Service, Courage and Perseverance, Success and Fulfillment: Dr. Sanjay Claudio, President of Association of Schools of Public Administration in the Philippines, Inc. and DirectorQuality Assurance Center of Polytechnic University of the Philippine, Atty. Lani Barcillano-Relleno, Registered Migration Consultant of Perth, Australia, Dr. Lorenzo Dinlayan III, Dean of Office of the Student Services of Bukidnon State University, Dr. Anne Mariquit Oppus, Program Head of Political Science Department and the Urban Development Program, Holy Name University, and Dr.  Alex Brillantes, Jr, Newly Appointed Secretary-General of Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA).

This significant event was held for the purpose of emphasizing the importance of voting in a creative and unique way that of spoken word poetry in echoing consciousness across on how to strengthen their democratic values by exercising their right to vote and how it would make a difference in the system of governance in our community and our nation.

The said activity was made possible with due acknowledgment to the technical and production team led by Dr. Malu C. Barcillano, Director of AdNU-Center for Local Governance and Dean of Graduate School, Ms. Camille Faye R. Badong, Technical Staff of AdNU-Center for Local Governance, Sherwin B. Perez and Emmanuel P. Llorin of the Fr. James O’Brien, S.J. Library with the support from Ms. Edna M. San Buenaventura, University Librarian, and  Rosanova B. Oliveros, with the support of Ms. Catherine Paterno, Officer of the University Student Recruitment Office.
