The COVID-19 pandemic poses unusual challenges to all sectors of our society which for the most part affected the operations of various organizations. They are compelled to craft innovative ways to remake the operations which require strong leadership competencies from the end of the organizations. In this context, the Ateneo de Naga University – Center for Local Governance decided to conduct its third set of online courses on “Bridging Leadership” in order to provide awareness and skills necessary for this type of leadership.
The first course focused on “The Societal Inequities and My Personal and our Shared Response” was held on March 25-26, 2021. The course allowed the participants to understand social inequities and the relevance of one’s personal and our shared response to these societal concerns using Bridging Leadership. At the end of the course, they were guided on how to acquire the skill and imbibe Bridging Leadership.
The second course is on “Leading Change” and it was conducted on April 22-23, 2021. The course allowed participants to recognize the value of leading others through change as a key leadership capability. The approach enables the organization to accelerate change initiatives and involve the entire organization in identifying, implementing and sustaining important change initiatives that will ensure organization’s long term success. At the end of the course, the participants were directed on how to gain skills to appropriate effective communication, to handle change, to manage negotiation and conflict and the team, in general of any formal organization.
The last course which was conducted on May 20-21, 2021 was focused on “Partnerships for Convergence”. The course allowed participants to appreciate the need to synergize and establish collaborative work with other groups and institutions to foster response towards the societal concerns. At the end of the course, the participants were led to get the skill on building successful partnership and links with different groups.
The online courses were handled by the following trainers: Dr Malu C. Barcillano, Director of the Ateneo de Naga University – Center for Local Governance; Francisco Rico U. Raquitico, Graduate School Faculty, and Ryan GianCarlo D. Macandog, Capability Building Officer of the Human Resource Management Office and College Faculty of the Business Management Courses Department. Further, the courses were attended by participants from the academe, Local Government Units and other private and public organizations across the country.
The said activity was made possible in coordination with the technical support personnel, namely, Sherwin Perez and Emmanuel Llorin of the O’Brien Library with the support from Ms. Edna San Buenaventura, University Librarian.
