TourismO Ateneo, the student body of Tourism majors under the Department of Allied Business Courses of the College of Business and Accountancy, opened the academic year with the second in a series of tourism and economic forum dubbed “Advancing Tourism for Camarines Sur,” staged last June 19, 2014 at the Richie Fernando Hall attended by faculty, administrators, and tourism & business students.
Camarines Sur 4th District Rep. Felix William Fuentebella served as the event speaker. Congr. Fuenteblla talked about the status and direction of tourism development in Partido District — composite of ten LGUs among which are Caramoan and Atulayan Islands, declared tourist zones under R.A. Nos. 9444-9445. These are white sand groups of islands off the coast of the Pacific Ocean, the former of which has been made famous as repeat filming location by various Survivor Europe and USA franchises.
It has been almost a year since this group of students under the guidance of their adviser, Ms. Kristine R. Lizardo, actively supported the initiative of 3rd District Rep. Leni Robredo to have the Naga Airport upgraded to accommodate bigger planes and bolster tourist arrival figures.
These efforts are in line with the advocacy of the Ateneo de Naga University to strongly support the program of the Department of Tourism in strengthening local government units’ tourism initiatives, through the tripartite partnership among the public and private sector and the academe, by pursuing a Tourism Development and Promotion Program for the Province of Camarines Sur. These efforts have been aptly dubbed as “TURISMO PARA SA CAMSUR.”
