An Invitation to Give
(A Call for Scholarships for Ateneo de Naga Univeristy)
"A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives you
roses." (Chinese Proverb)
Primum Regnum Dei! Above all things, the Kingdom of
God!
This is Ateneo de Naga's marching song. In our academic corridors, we
sing it with stout hearts and unwavering confidence!
In faith, we believe that Ateneo de Naga University is the Lord's designated
vessel for building His Kingdom in the Bikol region.
For sixty-three years, we have been blessed with the privilege of service
in this region of majestic mountains surpassed in beauty only by its captivating
people.
After 63 years, we more than ever know that ---
- Our Bikolano youth possess such outstanding
gifts of mind and heart honed in difficult circumstances that make their
spirits rich.
- They have labored to complete a primary or
a secondary education despite the obstacles posed by poverty - and the
stories of these obstacles are as heart-wrenching as they are edifying.
- They come to our famous Four Pillars raring
to step into a high school or college that will equip them with tools
for a future that will reshape the scourge of their past.
- They brim with hope and carry with them a
heart full of dreams.
- They ask for an opportunity to experience
the Ateneo de Naga tradition of excellence that they have witnessed
in those who have come before them.
- A great number of them half-expect to be turned
down not for lack of potential but for scarcity of resources to support
this particular hope and dream.
We at the Ateneo de Naga believe it is for these Bikolano
youth that we exist. To refuse these men and women entry into our university
is to turn our backs on what our Four Pillars stand for.
Supporting these dreams - opening the doors of opportunity for well-deserving
students who can join us only if given financial assistance through of
scholarship - puts the cost on us. And providing Jesuit education without
compromising quality this part of the world in itself comes at very high
cost. To boot ---
- Our roster of faculty members
and staff is the best in the region for which we provide competitive
compensation;
- Our facilities are world-class so that we
are recognized as centers of excellence in the Bikol region in various
fields;
- Our campus contains infrastructure that is
comparable to the best universities here and abroad;
- Our curriculum and programs possess unique
features that make for the highest standards of learning merged with
truly Ignatian, Jesuit, and Christian formative components.
The challenge to maintain a track record of excellence
on top of giving scholarships to promising young men and women is top
priority in our university.
But this is a mission that we cannot do on our own resources. Time and
again, resources have so dwindled that at one point in this university's
history, we teetered on the decision to stay around. We triumphantly survived
that. More than just surviving, we have boldly increased the number of
scholarships we give each year in the hope that no one needs to be turned
down. Our scholarship program is among our most robust endeavors. But
for this, we need equally robust help!
Please do help us. Support us in this challenge of providing quality
education to our deserving but financially disadvantaged youth. Share
with us the conviction that they deserve no less. In return, our commitment
to you is that it will be worth it. This is a pledge we have made to God,
to ourselves, and to you.
