An Invitation to Give
A Call for Scholarships
for Ateneo de Naga Univeristy

"A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives you roses." (Chinese Proverb)

Primum Regnum Dei! Above all things, the Kingdom of God!

This is Ateneo de Naga's marching song. In our academic corridors, we sing it with stout hearts and unwavering confidence!

In faith, we believe that Ateneo de Naga University is the Lord's designated vessel for building His Kingdom in the Bikol region.

For sixty-three years, we have been blessed with the privilege of service in this region of majestic mountains surpassed in beauty only by its captivating people.

After 63 years, we more than ever know that ---

  • Our Bikolano youth possess such outstanding gifts of mind and heart honed in difficult circumstances that make their spirits rich.
  • They have labored to complete a primary or a secondary education despite the obstacles posed by poverty - and the stories of these obstacles are as heart-wrenching as they are edifying.
  • They come to our famous Four Pillars raring to step into a high school or college that will equip them with tools for a future that will reshape the scourge of their past.
  • They brim with hope and carry with them a heart full of dreams.
  • They ask for an opportunity to experience the Ateneo de Naga tradition of excellence that they have witnessed in those who have come before them.
  • A great number of them half-expect to be turned down not for lack of potential but for scarcity of resources to support this particular hope and dream.

We at the Ateneo de Naga believe it is for these Bikolano youth that we exist. To refuse these men and women entry into our university is to turn our backs on what our Four Pillars stand for.

To the Ateneo de Naga Alumni/ae
in the USA:

Fr. Jack Phelan, S.J., now approaching 82, is fond of telling the story of his first arrival at the Ateneo de Naga. Coming through its gates, he was welcomed by Fr. Robert A. Bomeisl, S.J. Proudly, the latter pointed out the new Ateneo Gym in the emblazoned with Ateneo de Naga's Golden Knight. "That's a great gym!" he declared. Indeed, at that time, it was a great gym. "When there was a school Mass," Fr. Phelan recalls, "it was held in the gym. When there was a play, it was held in the gym. When there was a basketball game, it was held in the gym."
