A-WILLers go counter clockwise,declare ‘Together, Every Atenean Achieves Magis’
While most students today prefer to take the normal clockwise direction for ease and convenience, forty-three student leaders have chosen to go counter clockwise, determined to quash apathy and mediocrity.
They called themselves one Team Ateneo, a powerhouse of Ignatian student leaders from different co-curricular, extracurricular, volunteer and athletic organizations, fusing their respective organizations, with their Mission-Visions and great desires, and justifying the truest essence of the theme: “Team Ateneo: Together, Every Atenean Achieves Magis” during the Workshop on Ignatian Leadership for Life (A-Will) Teambuilding for Student Leaders last Oct. 20-22, 2008 at the Arrupe Retreat Center.

Watching young men and women rant and rave their way through rhythmic voices and body movements was like the classic watching of sunset at Ateneo’s backyard. Last October 29, 2008, 13 out-of-school youth from pilot barangays of the University’s 4 partner municipalities, together with Teatro Dignos and University Choir members finally delivered their message to their respective community leaders in a melodramatic but hard-hitting presentation at Arrupe Convention Hall to cap the alternative packaging workshop portion of Youth Speak Project.
AdNU-CLG Implements SIW In Sorsogon City
On October 15-16, 2008, the Ateneo de Naga University-Center for Local Governance (AdNU-CLG) conducted the Service Improvement Workshop (SIW) in Sorsogon City as part of the implementation of the Public Service Excellence, Ethics and Accountability Program (PSEEAP). This activity was commissioned by The Asia Foundation (TAF) as part of their project on Localizing Counter Corruption in Six Cities in Luzon and Visayas.
Student Ambassadors sponsor Finals Night
The Ateneo Student Ambassadors (ASA) presented a night of dancing to 255 college students at the Xavier Hall last October 19, Sunday.
A simple program was prepared, beginning with a Welcome Message from Fr. Joel Tabora. The school song, "Regnum Dei," followed Fr. President's speech. A brief orientation on what the program was for and all about was then given by Mr. Karl Llorin, who was also the emcee for the night. 
Awarding of the COE for Teacher Education held at SEAMEO INNOTECH
The selection of the Second Round of Centers of Excellence and Centers of Development for Teacher Education has concluded and that the Ateneo de Naga University made it as a Center of Excellence in Teacher Education.The awarding ceremony was held on October 9, 2008 at the SEAMEO-IINOTECH, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
ACLC Sponsors One-day Conference on its 8th Year Anniversary
On its 8th anniversary year, the Ateneo Child Learning Center sponsored a one-day conference with the theme: Integrating Music and Movements in the Early Grades. The seminar- workshop was held at the Instructional Media Center from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon. It was attended by 87 teachers in the early grades from various schools in the Region. 
AdNU - Media Studies Students Hold Photo Exhibit
Students, faculty members, and administrators trekked to AdNU's Xavier Hall last October 6, 2008 to view a total of sixty one (61) entries in the 2008 Streaks of Light Photo Exhibit. This week-long activity was organized by the CC21 Basic Photography Students of the AdNU – Media Studies Department.

Mr. Jerome Hipolito of AdNU's College of Education emerged as one of the winners in the Poetry Category of the 5th Premio Tomas Arejola Para sa Literaturang Bikolnon held at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary last September 13, 2008.
Get Involved
This was the University Social Involvement Council's call which was echoed by thirty-eight (38) in-and- out-of-school youth from various schools and remote barangays in Camarines Sur. These young women and men gathered last September 27 and 28 at the Knowledge for Development Center (KDC) of Ateneo de Naga University for a focus group discussion and training activity.

The Ateneo de Naga University Social Involvement Council (USIC) – Governance Cluster and Center for Local Governance (CLG) under the leadership of Dr. Malu C. the Asian Regional Meeting of IAJBS
Dr. Debbie Abiog-Adriano, the Dean of the College of Commerce, together with Mrs. Helenita Q. Ruiz and Ms. Maria Cristina M. Delos Santos, the Chairpersons for Accountancy and Business Administration respectively, attended the Asian Regional Meeting of the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools (IAJBS) last August 31 to September 3, 2008 at the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU). This was the first-ever Regional Meeting of the Deans of Jesuit Business Schools in Asia. The main objective of the meeting was to establish connections and see if there are any opportunities for collaboration within the Jesuit network.
Dr. Reganit re-elected as Philippine Association for Teacher Education (PAFTE) President
The College of Education jointly sponsored the 2008 PAFTE General Assembly held on August 29, 2008 at the Consuelo Madrigal Amphitheater, Ateneo de Naga University. Attended by about a hundred participants from 73 teacher training institutions in
the region, Dr. Angelita D. Romero, Academic Vice President of the Philippine Normal University, as keynote speaker discussed Quality Innovations in Teaching and Learning. The conference aimed to: (1) enhance better understanding and knowledge of innovative teaching and learning practices (2) encourage opportunities for adoption and adaptation of innovative teaching and learning methodologies and (3) facilitate networking and exchange of experience among teachers, teacher educators, and policy makers to increase the level of professionalism.
USIC Governance Cluster and CLG conduct training on Brgy. Legislation in Cabusao
The Governance Cluster of the University Social Involvement Council (USIC) conducted a training on Barangay Legislation to the Local Government Unit of Cabusao represented by its Local Chief Executive, Hon. Norberto Genova, last September 1-2, 2008. The training was attended by the Sangguniang Barangay officials of the following five (5) pilot barangays: Barcelonita, Biong, Castillo, Pandan and Sta. Cruz.
AdNU-MPA Students Conduct BPPBW in Calabanga, Camarines Sur
The Masters in Public Administration (MPA) students (Aprils Fe Serrano, Janice Noblefranca, Dinah Jamer, Emerson De Vera, Neopito Tipay, Jr., Michaengelo Severa, Pia Eirene Abengoza, Maria Gladys Consuelo Tipanero and Celeste Dizon) enrolled in PA-204 - Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Systems Analysis under Ms. Arrieth Genoveva O. Miranda and Dr. Malu C. Barcillano conducted a series of Barangay Participatory Planning and Budgeting Workshops (BPPBW) in Calabanga, Camarines Sur. 
AdNU-CLG starts PSEEAP workshops in Sorsogon City
The AdNU Center for Local Governance (CLG) was commissioned by The Asia Foundation (TAF) to implement the Public Service Excellence, Ethics and Accountability Program (PSEEAP) in Sorsogon City. The said program was made possible though the generous support of the British Embassy Strategic Programme Fund (SPF) under the Localizing Counter Corruption in Six Cities in Luzon and Visayas project implemented byTAF. 
Oxford University Student Visits AdNU
Ms. Padmini Iyer, a sophomore from Oxford University , recently visited Ateneo de Naga University (AdNU) for an internship under the University Social Involvement Council and the Knowledge for Development Center . She arrived on July 21 and stayed up to August 15, 2008.

Dr. Rufino Llagas Ramos III is one of the 51 scholars and the only Filipino who participated in the Young Scientists Program (YSP) of the XXIX International Congress of Psychology (ICP 2008) held at the International Congress Centrum in Berlin, Germany last July 20-25, 2008.
Mr. Kristian Cordero Bags 2008 NCCA Writers Prize for Poetry
Mr. Kristian S. Cordero, a faculty member of AdNU's Social Sciences Department, won the 2008 National Commission for Culture and the Arts ( NCCA ) Prize for Poetry for his project dubbed Segunda Mano.

The College of Nursing (CoN) of Ateneo de Naga University held its 3rd Capping, Pinning and Candle – Lighting Ceremony last July 28, 2008 with the theme “Ignatian Nurses: For Greater Excellence in Service... For God's Greater Glory”.
AdNU Hosts Caceres Clergy Assembly
The July Caceres Clergy Assembly, a montly fellowship of all the priests under the Archdiocese of Caceres, was held last July 29, 2008 at the Ateneo de Naga University.
This month's assembly began at 10 a.m. with a Morning Praise at the Christ the King University Church . The usual business meeting then followed at the Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J. Convention Center after which a sumptuous lunch was served. A raffle, with desktop computers, television sets, water dispensers, and mountain bikes as major prizes, capped the affair.

A hundred and fifty-one (151) Ignatian ‘heroes’ bleed in Dugong Atenista 1; Record up by 68%
ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY ONE students, teachers, office personnel and alumni of the Ateneo de Naga University bravely responded to the call for Ignatian XIÁ – heroes – by being blood donors in the Dugong Atenista I during the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola last July 31, 2008 at the Xavier Hall.
ADNU Pioneer Nursing Batch Garners
70% passing rate on 2008 Board Exams
Pioneer Nursing batch of ADNU made an impressive mark on the University’s reputation as a school offering Nursing Education. Sixty-four (64) out of ninety-two (92) examinees from the College of Nursing passed the June 2008 Nursing Board Exams, garnering a total of seventy percent (70%) passing rate. This is twenty-seven marks above the national passing rate of forty-three percent (43%).
Top German Graduate Visits AdNU under EPECTO
Konstantin Mehl, a fresh graduate of Music and Chemistry and 2008 Class Valedictorian of Friedrich-Alexander-Gymnasium, Neustadt-an-der-Aisch in Germany, visited Ateneo de Naga University from June 29 to July 28, 2008. This visit was facilitated by the Exchange Program on Education, Culture and Teaching Objectives (EPECTO), an ongoing partnership between Ateneo de Naga University and Friedrich-Alexander-Gymnasium.
Education Honors Program Students hold a Day of Deep Reflection
After several attempts, the Education Honors Program students underwent a Day of Deep Reflection last July 19-20, 2008 at the Mater Ecclesiae, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur. Concieved by Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit, Dean of the College of Education, the Day of Reflection was designed for the honors students to reflect on their uniqueness and giftedness so they can respond to the demands of the dynamic University life. Furthermore, it was also intended by the College to produce better formed graduates with competence and character.

IRA SHEENA HOWARD is one of TOSP
Following Ateneo de Naga University’s historic achievement last year of claiming two of the Ten Outstanding Students in the Philippines (TOSP) is another winning streak for the University as Batch 2008 Valedictorian IRA SHEENA C. HOWARD becomes fifth in ADNU’s history to be conferred with such honor.
AdNU Holds Institutional Retreats
The Annual Institutional Retreats for School Year 2008-2009 were held last July 10 - 12, 2008 . During these three (3) days, the university closed shop to give way for its administrators, faculty, and staff to pray, reflect on their work in the context of their relationship with our Lord, and discern God's movements in their lives. 
Two International Entomologists give lectures on diversity and sociobiology of ants
Mr. Dave General, a former science faculty member of ADNU, now a research specialist at the University of Arkansas in Monticello, USA, and Ms. Sabin Frohschammer, a PhD student from University of Regensberg, Germany, gave lectures on diversity and reproductive behaviors of ants, last Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Bro. Richard Michael Fernando, S.J. Hall. The lecture was attended by more than one hundred (100) students from the University. This is the first in the series of science lectures that the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will be conducting this school-year.
AdNU Reorients Upperclassmen Anew
The College Guidance Center , in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Academic President for Formation, organized and conducted a Reorientation Seminar for Upperclassmen in the month of July.
The College of Nursing was the first to undergo the said reorientation last June 13-14, 2008 at the Fr. Pedro Arrupe S.J. Convention Hall. The other five (5) colleges, on the other hand, had theirs last June 25, 2008 from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. 
AdNU holds Special Mass for Typhoon Frank's Victims
The Ateneo de Naga University community, comprised of administrators, faculty, staff, and students, joined a special Mass offered for the victims of Typhoon Frank last July 4, 2008 at the Christ the King University Church. 
AdNU “Little Men and Women for Others” give to Iloilo
In response to the call for generosity and solidarity for the victims of Typhoon Frank, the Ateneo Child Learning Center took part in the University’s appeal. Donations coming from parents and children were overwhelming.
Last Friday, July 4, 2008, the ACLC students together with their teachers went to CCD and dropped off the gifts that were gathered, used clothes, blankets, slippers, shoes, canned goods, noodles, medicines and cash.
They have truly experienced the joy of giving to our fellowmen in Iloilo, indeed we have molded little men and women for others.
Dr. Barcillano Elected as PRO in the ASPAP General Assembly
As a member institute of the Association of Schools of Public Administration in the Philippines, Inc. (ASPAP), the Ateneo de Naga University through its Graduate School Masters in Public Administration (MPA) Program, was represented in the ASPAP's Annual General Assembly held at Assembly Hall, 2nd Floor, NCPAG Building, UP Diliman Campus last June 27, 2008. Dr. Malu C. Barcillano, in her capacity as official representative of the University to the organization attended the said affair. Among the agenda of the assembly was the election of the new set of officers which will serve for two (2) years. The Ateneo de Naga University, represented by Dr. Barcillano, was elected as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the organization. 
Dr. Cristina P. Lim is chosen as API Senior Fellow for 2008-2009
Dr. Cristina P. Lim, Director of the Ateneo Social Science Research Center was selected as one of the 27 recipients of the prestigious Asian Public Intellectuals (API) Fellowship for the year 2008-2009. She is one of the four Filipinos chosen. Other recipients came from Indonesia (6), Japan (5), and Thailand (6).
The Nippon Foundation for Asian Public Intellectuals Fellowship Program is now on its 8th year. To date, it has funded 220 API Fellows, approximately 40 members from each member country – Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Dr. Lim is among the API Senior Fellows who has established an impressive track record as a public intellectual. She will conduct a research on “Women in the Fishery Sector in Asia” from July 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009 in three countries, Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand.
The last time that Ateneo de Naga University produced an API Fellow was when Rudyard C. Pesimo was selected last 2004.
AdNU Celebrates its Autonomous Status
It was high-power festivity for the Ateneo de Naga University on June 17, 2008 as the entire University celebrated its new autonomous status. That had come on June 2 when the Commission on High Education in an en banc resolution declared the Ateneo de Naga University autonomous for five years under CMO 52, s. 2006. It also declared the Ateneo’s College of Education a new Center of Excellence for Teacher Education.

AdNU Education Graduate Selected as TOSP National Finalist
Ms. Ira Sheena C. Howard, a Bachelor in Secondary Education-Honors Program (BSSE-HP) graduate, was chosen as one of thirty (30) national finalists in the Search for the 2008 Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP). She emerged finalist after the esteemed and reputable members of the National Screenng Committee found her a worthy choice from among a hundred other contenders all over the country. 
AdNU-WB KDC Sets Up Nooks of Knowledge in Camarines Sur
In an effort to make knowledge more accessible to the public, the Ateneo de Naga University-World Bank Knowledge for Development Center (AdNU-WB KDC) put up six (6) satellite nooks in four (4) municipalities of Camarines Sur. 
AdNU Holds its First Faculty General Assembly for SY 2008-2009
In AdNU’s continuing effort to maintain and improve the competence of its faculty, the first General Faculty Assembly for School Year 2008-2009 was held last June 10, 2008 at the Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J. Hall.
The program started with an Invocation led by Fr. Danilo B. Isidro, S.J., Chairperson of the Digital Arts and Computer Animation Department. This was followed by the declaration of the intent and purpose of the assembly and the introduction to the body of the newly-hired faculty members for this school year. 
AdNU Honors New CPA's
Twenty-one (21) new Certified Public Accountants (CPA's) of the Ateneo de Naga University were feted with an Awarding Ceremony and Testimonial Dinner last June 12, 2008 at the Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J. Convention Hall. 
CHED Grants Autonomous Status to ADNU;
College of Education is Center of Excellence
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted autonomous status to the Ateneo de Naga University last June 2, 2008 and designated its College of Education as a Center of Excellence in Teacher Education. The news was relayed to AdNU President, Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J. by CHED Commissioner Nenalyn Defensor.
In accordance with RA 7722, CHED supervises nationwide some 1,500 private higher education institutions (PHEIs) offering some 978 academic programs with combined enrollment of over 1.6 million students. The sheer scope of this mandate led CHED, beginning in 2001, to rationalize its supervision by implementing progressive deregulation through the grant of deregulated or autonomous status to deserving PHEIs. At present, the selection of deregulated or autonomous PHEIs is based on three general criteria, namely: (1) long tradition of integrity and untarnished reputation, (2) commitment to excellence as evidenced by accreditation of academic programs and presence of Centers of Development or Excellence and other quality assurance indicators, and (3) sustainability and viability of operations.

Ateneo de Naga University recently hosted and co-implemented the ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.s 4th Faculty Capability- Building Program - Regional Seminar from May 19 to 30, 2008 at the Madrigal Center for Entrepreneurship (MCSE) Amphitheater. 
CHED designates ADNU College of Education as Center of Excellence
The Ateneo de Naga University College of Education was designated by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Excellence (COE) in Teacher Education for exhibiting the highest degree of standards along the areas of instruction, research and extension.  |
