In the afternoon, there will be 5 parallel sessions.

A lecture-type session where invited speakers will talk about selected topics in Open Source Systems and Tools that can significantly help IT Educators and students. No hands-on session.

Speakers of this session are from UP ITTC and other invited guests.

Office Productivity Session

An introduction to OpenOffice.org will be given, as well as hands-on on the following:

    • Writer for word processing
    • Calc for Spreadsheet
    • Impress for Presentation

OpenOffice.orgOpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute.

Image Processing Session

This is a lecture and hands-on session on the basics of GIMP.

GIMPThe GNU Image Manipulation Program, or GIMP, is a raster graphics editor used to process digital graphics and photographs. Typical uses include creating graphics and logos, resizing and cropping photos, altering colors, combining multiple images, removing unwanted image features, and converting between different image formats. GIMP can also be used to create basic animated images in GIF format. It is often used as a free software replacement for Adobe Photoshop, the most widely used bitmap editor in the printing and graphics industries; however, it is not designed to be a Photoshop clone.

Web Authoring Session

Maximum Participants: 25

Participants will be trained on the basic use of Seamonkey as Web Authoring Tool. This session includes hands-on.

SeaMonkeySeaMonkey is a free, open source, and cross-platform Internet suite that is the continuation of the former Mozilla Application Suite. It consists of a Navigator which is a descendant of the Netscape family; a Mail & Newsgroups client program, and an HTML editor, or Composer program.

Database Management

Maximum Participants: 25

MySQL basics will be discussed as Data Management Tool. This session includes hands-on.

MySQLMySQL is a multithreaded, multi-user SQL database management system (DBMS) which has, according to MySQL AB, more than 10 million installations. The basic program runs as a server providing multiuser access to a number of databases.
