Bongat and Bordado Rated Good by Nagueños

Survey found 51.7% satisfied and 15% dissatisfied with the performance of Mayor Bongat in his first 6 months in office, for a GOOD net satisfaction rating of +36.7 (% satisfied minus % dissatisfied). Public`s satisfaction and dissatisfaction ratings for the performance of Vice-Mayor Bordado were 57.8% and 16.5% respectively, resulting in a GOOD net satisfaction rating of +41.3. [more]

ASRP Launches Hinuhà and Presents 2011 Poverty and Governance Public Opinion Poll

The Ateneo Student Researchers Pool (ASRP) formally launched its Hinuhà Publication Special Issue titled “ASRP Turns 10” through a ceremonial handing over of a copy by Marjolen Durante, current ASRP President along with Dr. Cristina P. Lim, Director of the ASSRC, to Dr. Alan Sioson, Chair of the University Research Council on March 16, 2011 at 4:30 pm in the Richie Fernando Hall. The Philippine Sociological Society (PSS) in cooperation with the Ateneo Social Science Research Center (ASSRC) and the Department of the Social Sciences of Ateneo de Naga University is inviting participants to the 2011 National Conference of the Philippine Sociological Society, with the theme, “Technology Reshaping Society: Society Shaping Technology.” This conference will be held at the Ateneo de Naga University on October 14 – 15, 2011. Profile: Naga City, Philippines

From a third class city characterized by sluggish local economy, Naga in more than a decade has turned into a busy metropolis, a leading growth area in Bicolandia.

Outstanding are the expansion of the educational institutions, in numbers, physical infrastructures and course offering, the realization of Bicol Science and Technology Centrum which features a computer gallery, a mini-science library and Sci-Art Cubbyhole for toddlers and pre-schoolers, and mobile library.

Efforts to share the benefits of development to the local communities especially the urban poor are also gaining ground as more Non-government Organizations (NGOs) and Peoples' Organization (POs) work together for their own development.

Although the Naga City government has demonstrated some degree of success in local governance, the rapid growth it is experiencing seems to have little perceivable impacts in terms of equity. For some reasons, the observed growth has not trickled down to the poorer sector of the population in the form of creation of more jobs, provision of more economic opportunities, or a more equal distribution of income.

Vol. 8: ASRP turns 10!

This year may be ordinary for some but definitely not for us, the Ateneo Student Researchers Pool (ASRP), because this is the year we celebrate our 10th year anniversary!

It has been a decade ago since our organization was established. This started when the Ateneo Social Science Research Center (ASSRC) got involved in the assessment of the Naga City’s implementation of the Local Governance Code or popularly known as GOLD project. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Associates in Rural Development (ARD), the project used the Social Weather Station’s (SWS) methodology, especially the right area coverage, in coming up with a quantitative measure of its assessment. For the three years of project implementation, the SWS served as the ASSRC’s mentor in the use of the poll’s methodology.more

Seisen University Student's Visit to the Philippines

Every year, the Department of Studies on Global Citizenship of Seisen University, Tokyo, Japan conducts fieldwork to allow their students to experience cross-cultural exchange through exposure in urban and rural areas. For the year 2006, the Philippines was selected as their fieldwork site.

Last July 28 - August 4, 2006, eleven female college students and two faculty members of the said department had their fieldwork in various communities in Bicol, including Pacol, Naga City (farming), Tugos, Paracale, Camarines Norte (small-scale mining), and Sogod, Tinambac, Camarines Sur (fishing). The fieldwork was facilitated by the Ateneo Social Science Research Center (ASSRC) of Ateneo de Naga University in cooperation with the Ateneo Student Researchers Pool (ASRP).

Cross-Sectional Study of Corruption in the Philippines

A project of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus, the book presents the findings of a study that sought to determine the perceptions of various sectors in Philippine Society toward corruption. Recommendations on combatting this insidious social ill are likewise offered.
