Ateneans from Bicol Top Homelife 2007 Poetry Contest

Winners of Home Life: The Philippines’ Family Magazine 2007 Poetry, were announced recently. Bikolano writers swept the prizes in the Filipino category. The first place went to Jose Jason L. Chancoco (Aden HS ’97 & AdNU 4th Year AB Literature student) from Iriga City with his piece entitled, “Isang Gabing Ganito”. Winning second place was Kristian S. Cordero (creative writing instructor in AdNU), also from Iriga, with his “Sa Paglubog ng Araw” piece.  Third place went to another Bikolano hailing from Camaligan, Estelito B. Jacob (Aden HS’91, Coll.’95) with his winning piece “Sa Muling Pagputok ng Mayon”.

The first place in the English category went to Luis Cabalquinto (Aden HS’55, Coll.’74) from Magarao, Camarines Sur with his “Quotidian”.  Following him in the second and third place respectively are writers Michael U. Obenieta and Tem M. Adlawan from Cebu City.
 
This year’s esteemed judges are Dr. Leoncio P. Deriada, Prof. Jonathan P. Jurilla and Prof. John E. Barrios.  They selected the winners from the outstanding entries published in Home Life’s poetry page throughout the year 2007.
