ADNU Debate Society Reaps Award at the Raul S. Roco Cup
 The Ateneo de Naga University Debate Society, more known as “Remontados” reaped awards in the Roco Cup 2007: 1st Bicol British Parliamentary Debate Championship held last November 30 to December 2, 2007 at the University of Sta. Isabel.
All four teams from the ADNU Remontados garnered the following awards:
Team A: Miguel Domingo (4th Best Speaker)
Marpril Agor (8th Best Speaker)
1st runner-up in the finals
Team B: Joachim Pilapil (5th Best Speaker)
Monica Palomares (2nd Best Speaker, Finals’ Best Speaker)
Champion for the final round
Team C: Yvete Marie Sola (3rd Best Speaker)
Chona Lo (6th Best Speaker),
Semi-finalists
Team D: Alfred Labicassi (6th Best Speaker)
Michelle Marie Smith
2nd runner-up in the finals
Topics of the debate ranged from fraternities, plastic surgery, Myanmar and the decreased dependence of SCU’s on government subsidy. The tournament adopted the British Parliamentary format in which four teams show finesse in terms of argumentation, rebuttals and dynamism.
The Raul S. Roco Cup, with the theme “Bicolano debating spirit unleashed” was organized by the Universidad de Sta. Isabel Debate Society and the adjudication core which was composed of five members from the University of the Philippines-Diliman Debate Society. Five schools joined in this year’s competition namely: Ateneo de Naga University, Universidad de Sta. Isabel, Naga College Foundation, Bicol University, and Camarines Norte State College.
