Ched Grants Deregulated Status To Adnu

The Commission on Higher Education recently renewed the deregulated status of Ateneo de Naga University for a period of five years.  The grant of the special status resulted from the approval of CMO 59 s. 2007 last December 3, 2007, which is incidentally the feast of the St. Francis Xavier, the University’s patron saint.

ADNU was among the first batch of twenty-two private higher education institutions (PHEIs) granted five-year deregulated status under CMO 32, s. 2001 which expired last June 30, 2007.  Today, from this first batch, only two was able to retain the deregulated status, Ateneo de Naga being one of them. This makes ADNU the only school in the whole of Region V to have this special status for the maximum term of five years.

As a deregulated PHEI, the University shall have the following benefits specified in CMO 52, s.2006:

  1. Exemption from the issuance of Special Order (S.O.) for its graduates.
  2. Free from regular monitoring and evaluation of CHED.
  3. Priority in the grant of subsidies and other financial incentives/assistance form the Commission on Higher Education whenever funds are available.
  4. Privilege to determine and prescribe curricular programs to achieve global competence.
  5. Authority to grant Honoris Causa to those deserving, per pertinent provision of existing CHED issuance on conferment of honorary degrees.

The evaluation criteria for granting a status to a PHEI includes a long tradition of integrity and untarnished reputation, commitment to excellence (based on such indicators as accreditation of programs and designation as Center of Development/ Excellence), and sustainability and viability of operations.
