Fr. Tabora Represents AJCU-EAO at ICJHE;
Signs MOA With German School

Father Tabora returned from his trip to Rome and Germany on Thurs., December 6.

In Rome, Fr. Tabora represented the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in East Asia and Oceania at the annual meeting of the International Commission on Jesuit Higher Education on November 22-24 in the Jesuit Curia. The Commission deliberated on a report to Fr. General concerning issues affecting the future of Jesuit higher education, and commenced planning for an International Meeting of Presidents of Jesuit Universities with the new General of the Society of Jesus. It also deliberated on how cooperation between the universities and other Jesuit apostolates might be improved.

In Germany, Fr. Tabora signed a Memorandom of Agreement on an Exchange Programe on Education, Culture and Teaching Objectives (EPECTO) with the Friedrich Alexander Gymnasium in Neustadt an der Aisch. The agreement, mediated through Ms. Karola Heck-Klier of the Fr. Alexander Gymnasium, who had taught chemistry here in 2005 pro bono, foresees cultural and language, and student and faculty exchange, as well as collaboration in special projects. Under this agreement, two faculty members, Dieter Bernhard and Katrin Kleinlein will visit AdNU in late December to mid-January, just as Rose Sergio and Erick Lagdameo visited them in spring of this year. The exchange of teachers paves the way for exchange of students.

Last weekend, Fr. Tabora also joined the Sunday liturgies of the parish where he worked close to 30 years ago as a doctoral student, Sankt Ulrich in Unterschleissheim. He was introduced to the members of the parish who had not yet met him, even though collections had been steady for projects of "Pater. Joel." Sankt Ulrich is the lead contributor to the Kristong Hari Fund which now supports 47 scholars at AdNU as well as other direct-assistance interventions for the poor through the USIC.
