College of Commerce hosts Bicol Regional Business Education Forum with ENEDA
The College of Commerce, led by Dean Edwin P. Bernal, DBA, hosted the ENEDA Bicol Regional Business Education Forum, with the Theme: Sustainable Development through Entrepreneurship Education last Thursday, 6 September 2007, at the Richie Fernando Conference Hall.
Among the participants were students and professors from the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC), Bicol University (BU), Divine Word College-Legazpi, Partido State University-Goa (PSU), Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges-Naga (CSPC), Camarines Norte State College, University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP), Mabini College-Daet, Marillac School-Sorsogon, Arborvitae Plains Montessori-Naga, and the Ateneo de Naga University.
The said forum is part of the Entrepreneurs Educators' Association of the Philippines, Inc. (ENEDA) country-wide road shows. The first three fora were held in Metro Manila, North Luzon, and South Luzon, respectively. The remaining forum will be held in Visayas and Mindanao. ENEDA is a nonstock, nonprofit professional organization composed of educators and entrepreneurs who advocate business entrepreneurship as a means to make the Philippines progressive.
Dr. Gloria Sollarano-Chavez, DBA, and Edna Salvador-Tejada, MM, graced the forum as speakers.
Dr. Gloria Sollarano-Chavez, the present chairperson of DLSU Manila Business Management Department and 2004-2005 National President of ENEDA, talked about “Fostering Entrepreneurship Mindsets through Education and Learning”. Being an advocate of entrepreneurship education, Dr. Chavez has been involved in many international conferences and symposia, such as the ASIALICS conference in Kuala Lumpur, Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators at Babson College Massachusetts, Southeast Asian association for Institutional Research Conference at Wenzhou China, among others.
Ms. Edna S. Tejada talked about the “Government's Role in Sustaining the Entrepreneurship Culture of the Academic Institutions”. Ms. Tejada is the current Provincial Director of the Camarines Sur Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and has been with DTI since 1981. She emphasized that the government, through its 2004-2010 Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP), has vigorously supported the agri-business and micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as they are the most efficient generators of jobs in terms of jobs ratio to investment.
Dr. Alice T. Valerio, a professor of the DLSU-Dasmariñas and the incumbent national president of ENEDA, and Mr. Michael Lu, a student of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and Young Entrepreneurs Society of the Philippines (YES) national president, were also present.
