Two AdNU Alumni Ordained in AdNU University Chapel

Last Saturday, the birthday of Mary, grace abounded in our University as the Most Rev. Leonardo Z. Legaspi, OP, DD, Archbishop of Caceres, ordained two Jesuits, Emmanuel "Nono" Alfonso, SJ, and Xavier "Xave" Olin, SJ, to the diaconate in our University Church of Christ the King.  Participating were friends and relatives of the ordainded including some 50 Jesuit priests and scholastics from Manila.  Among the concelebrants were Fr. Daniel Huang, SJ, Provincial Superior, Fr. Primitivo Viray, Rector of Loyola House of Studies, Frs. Romeo Intengan, Noel Vasquez, and Joaquin Bernas, Past Provincials, and Fr. Joseph Olin, cousin of Rev. Xave Olin.  Master of Ceremonies was Fr. Peter Berina, Rector of Holy Rosary College Seminary.  The University Choir sang under the leadership of Mr. Joseph Reburiano.

It was the first time that a diaconate ordination of Jesuits was held outside Manila.  Fr. Provincial approved the petition of Fr. President since the ordained were both from Naga and both alumni of Ateneo de Naga.

The reception for all took place in Xavier Hall with food donated by friends and relatives.  The Ateneo University Band provided the fetive music.

In the evening a festive meal for the families of the ordained and the Jesuit guests was held in the Arrupe Convention Center.  The University choir provided the musical entertainment.

During the Mass, Xave Olin expressed the gratitude of the two ordinati for the welcome and reception at Ateneo de Naga.  His gratitude was echoed after the evening supper by Bro. Nono Alfonso.

Rev. Olin preached on Sunday at the 6:30 am Mass;  Rev. Nono preached at the 9:00 am Mass.
